Operating within the bustling and vibrant city of Des Moines, Iowa, Oak View Group manages the Iowa Events Center, located at 730 Third Street. This prime facility hosts a diverse range of events including concerts, sports games, conventions, and community gatherings, serving as a central hub for entertainment and cultural activities in the region.\n\nThe Event Manager role at Oak View Group within the Iowa Events Center is a critical leadership position responsible for the end-to-end management of assigned events. This full-time role, offering a competitive annual salary range of $45,000 to $50,000, focuses on ensuring seamless event execution while maintaining top-tier customer and lessee satisfaction. The ideal candidate will work closely with a team of event and security staff, cultivating a professional and cooperative environment that emphasizes safety, efficiency, and high-quality service delivery. The Event Manager will be integral in coordinating with external partners including local public safety officials such as police, fire, and medical services to uphold the security and smooth operation of all events.\n\nIn this capacity, the Event Manager oversees the advance planning process, ensuring readiness and compliance with operational standards. Responsibilities include hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising all event staff and security personnel. Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from accredited college or university
  • 3-5+ years of responsible event management experience in a stadium, arena, convention center or public assembly facility
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Knowledge of crowd management and control techniques
  • Ability to identify needs of facility users
  • Knowledge of fire and public safety regulations
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, early mornings, and holidays
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills
  • Excellent customer service orientation

Job Qualifications

  • 3-5+ years experience in event management in stadium, arena, convention center, or public assembly setting
  • Bachelor's degree in facility management, hospitality management, business, or related field
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, word processing, and Internet
  • Knowledge of operational characteristics of events
  • Ability to identify needs of facility users
  • Knowledge of crowd management and control techniques
  • Knowledge of customer service practices
  • Knowledge of principles of supervision, scheduling, and training employees
  • Familiar with facility use contracts
  • Knowledge of fire and public safety regulations
  • Knowledge of audio/visual equipment and electronic systems in public assembly facilities
  • Experience in budget preparation and control
  • Familiarity with terminology used in entertainment, convention, or public assembly settings
  • Preferred experience with AutoCAD

Job Duties

  • Advance, plan, service, and supervise all events
  • Plan, direct and evaluate the work of subordinates
  • Provide leadership and guidance for event personnel
  • Analyze challenges, identify alternative solutions, and project consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with lessees, clients, co-workers, part-time staff, contractors, patrons, public and municipal officials
  • Work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, early mornings, and holidays
  • Complete all duties with a customer service focus through teamwork and dedication to company principles
  • Assist in preparation of building for events
  • Complete pre-show event financial estimates
  • Complete post-show event settlements
  • Advise lessees on services available from independent contractors
  • Recruit, train, and supervise event and security staff
  • Create work schedules, delegate assignments, and review performance
  • Function as liaison between users of facility and staff
  • Recommend and evaluate required event staffing levels
  • Coordinate communication during load-in and load-out
  • Investigate and resolve event-related complaints
  • Maintain event and security equipment
  • Make hospitality arrangements
  • Communicate with municipal officials and event staff to ensure security
  • Review emergency planning procedures
  • Create and distribute detailed data sheets for events
  • Prepare and approve bi-weekly payroll
  • Coordinate service needs with food and beverage provider
  • Serve as Manager on Duty as scheduled
  • Perform other duties as assigned
