The Event Changeover Specialist role at the St. Charles Convention Center offers a unique opportunity to be part of this dynamic environment. This part-time position involves assisting in the set-up and tear-down processes for events, as well as performing general housekeeping and custodial responsibilities to ensure the venue maintains its high standards of cleanliness and readiness. The role provides various shift options to accommodate diverse schedules, including day, evening, weekend, and overnight shifts. Employees in this job are compensated at an hourly rate between $18.50 and $19.50, with an additional $5 premium for working overnight shifts between midnight and 5 AM. Responsibilities for the Event Changeover Specialist include handling physical tasks such as moving risers, chairs, tables, staging, dance floors, carpets, and draperies to set the stage for diverse events. The role demands a high level of safety awareness when using various cleaning chemicals and equipment, including buffers, sweepers, scrubbers, vacuums, and snow removal tools. Post-event cleanup and trash removal are also core duties, alongside light maintenance tasks and occasional use of heavy equipment or power tools. The role requires timely and accurate completion of event setup and cleaning checklists to maintain operational efficiency. Additionally, the specialist serves an important customer service function, interacting professionally with internal teams and external clients, ensuring an excellent event experience from start to finish.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent preferred
  • Experience in public facility highly preferred
  • Ability to follow safety rules and procedures
  • Must be able to work flexible schedule including nights, weekends and holidays
  • Must be able to lift heavy objects continuously

Job Duties

  • Set-up and tear down including risers, chairs, tables, staging, dance floors, carpet squares, pipe and drape and other items as needed for events at facility
  • Execute accurate and timely completion of cleaning checklists and room sets
  • Handle folding chairs, stacking chairs, tables of various shapes and sizes, drapery and skirting
  • Responsible for safe use of various supplies including variety of cleaning chemicals, mops, brooms, shovels and scrapers
  • Operate an assortment of equipment including buffers/burnishers, rider sweepers/scrubbers, walk-behind scrubbers, blowers, vacuums, snow removal equipment and others as needed
  • Adequately perform post-event cleanup and trash removal
  • Perform light maintenance tasks as assigned
  • May occasionally work with heavy equipment or power tools
  • Report to supervisors any defective equipment, facility damage, incorrect/improper set-up and areas of the facility requiring cleaning, in a timely manner
  • Provide excellent customer service assistance to internal and external clients
