The Dishwasher & Catering Steward position at the Iowa Events Center, managed by Oak View Group, is a crucial role that supports the seamless operation of the food and beverage services during events. As a Dishwasher & Catering Steward, the incumbent will be responsible not only for operating dishwashing machinery but also for hand-washing items that are not dishwasher safe, sorting and disposing of trash and compost, and maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment. The role also involves assisting in plate-up and food production line duties when needed, supporting the staging and inventory of catering equipment, and ensuring that all back-of-house areas, including dock areas, are tidy and prepared for events. This multifaceted position requires excellent attendance, a team-oriented attitude, and flexibility to work during nights, weekends, and extended hours as event schedules demand.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Previous experience in food service or kitchen environment preferred
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Physical stamina to perform cleaning duties
  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to follow health and safety regulations
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Must maintain excellent attendance
  • Ability to handle fast-paced work situations

Job Qualifications

  • Past experience working in a food production kitchen or similar industry preferred
  • Ability to positively interact with diverse personalities including co-workers and managers
  • Ability to be detail-oriented, multitask, and effectively prioritize in a changing environment
  • Ability to be self-directed while working in a team-oriented environment
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and long hours

Job Duties

  • Operate dish machine equipment and wash items not dishwasher-safe by hand
  • Place clean dishes, utensils, or equipment in proper storage areas
  • Assist on plate-up and food production line as needed
  • Sort and remove trash or compost and clean bins after usage
  • Sweep and scrub all floors in the kitchen and back-of-house areas
  • Assist in keeping dock areas clean and organized
  • Clean up spills or breakage on the event floor
  • Maintain positive attitude and compliant employee relations climate
  • Ensure compliance with health, sanitation, safety, and employment regulations
  • Maintain a clean and organized kitchen for the food and beverage operation
  • Perform other duties as assigned
