The Olmsted County Exhibition Center, located in Rochester, MN, is a newly constructed 82,000 square foot venue managed by Oak View Group. The role of Director of Operations at the Olmsted County Exhibition Center offers an exceptional career opportunity for a seasoned professional in facility and venue management. Reporting to the General Manager, the Director of Operations is responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations of this complex and multifaceted venue, ensuring operational excellence and high-quality service delivery. This position combines leadership in facility maintenance, event set-up and tear-down, safety compliance, staff management, and budget control.
Specifically, the Director of Operations manages critical systems such as HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and workplace safety mechanisms while also coordinating custodial, landscaping, and equipment maintenance services. The role demands active participation in budgeting and fiscal oversight, including forecasting operational and capital expenses, monitoring expenditures, and implementing cost-saving measures. The Director ensures smooth communications and event logistics among departments and direct oversight of event production elements ranging from stage assembly to specialized equine footing.
Influencing the venue's operational strategy, the Director of Operations maintains strong partnerships with county services and acts as the key liaison for compliance regarding permits, licenses, inspections, and regulatory adherence. They are also tasked with advancing a culture of continuous improvement, focusing on streamlining processes, enhancing customer service, and supervising contractors and consultants involved in building projects. - Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- 5-7 years of experience in facility or venue operations
- availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays
- knowledge of OSHA regulations
- experience with budget management

- proficiency in Microsoft Office
- ability to manage contractor relationships and capital projects
Job Qualifications
- B.S. or B.A. degree from an accredited college/university or equivalent experience
- 5-7 years of previous experience in facility/venue operations
- background in livestock and equine shows preferred
- demonstrated knowledge of physical facility management
- supervisory skills and experience in work crew supervision in facility operations
- ability to work event nights, weekends, and holidays as required
- knowledge of budget preparation and control
- knowledge of OSHA requirements
- basic knowledge of boilers, chillers, refrigeration, and ice making
- basic knowledge of fire alarm/fire protection systems
- knowledge of event production and theater technology
- capable of operating in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, and Outlook
- ability to supervise the work of others
- ability to communicate with employees, co-workers, volunteers, management staff and guests in a clear, business-like, and respectful manner
- ability to work well in a team-oriented, fast-paced, event-driven environment
- working knowledge of equipment safety, facility maintenance, and housekeeping

Job Duties
