The Busser role at Vanderbilt University Performance Dining, managed by Oak View Group, is a vital part-time position that plays a critical role in supporting the restaurant’s service team. This position is based in Nashville, TN, at 2601 Jess Neely Drive, in a dynamic and fast-paced environment serving patrons during athletic and entertainment events. The part-time Busser is responsible for assisting servers and kitchen staff by delivering food and drink orders promptly and efficiently, clearing and resetting tables, and maintaining cleanliness throughout the dining area. The hourly pay ranges from $18.00 to $20.00, reflecting the importance of this role in creating a positive and seamless dining experience for guests.
In this role, the Busser will work closely with servers, bartenders, kitchen personnel, and other team members to ensure smooth coordination and exceptional customer service. Responsibilities include transporting prepared food from the kitchen to customers, verifying orders for accuracy, delivering beverages, preparing and resetting tables with utensils and condiments, maintaining cleanliness of the dining and outdoor seating areas, and assisting with general maintenance tasks such as restocking supplies, cleaning glassware, and managing waste disposal. Job Qualifications
- Prior experience in a restaurant or food service setting is preferred, especially in a similar customer service role
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, lift and carry food trays or plates, and navigate outdoor spaces comfortably
- Excellent verbal communication skills to interact with customers and effectively relay information to team members
- Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate order delivery and customer satisfaction
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritize responsibilities, and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Willingness to work collaboratively with the kitchen and serving staff to provide seamless service
- A friendly and approachable demeanor with the ability to provide exceptional customer service
Job Duties
- Collect prepared food items from the kitchen and ensure their safe transportation to seating areas
- Verify that the food being delivered matches the order details, paying attention to special requests, allergies, or dietary restrictions
- Deliver food promptly to customers while it is still fresh and hot, ensuring that they receive their orders in a timely manner
- Assist picking up drink orders at the bar and delivering them to the guest
- Set up tables with clean utensils and condiments before guests arrive
- Clear and reset tables promptly after customers have finished dining
- Ensure tables are properly arranged and presentable for the next guests
- Assist in maintaining cleanliness and organization in the outdoor dining area, clearing empty plates, utensils, and other waste from tables when necessary
- Collaborate with the kitchen staff, servers, bartenders and other restaurant personnel to ensure smooth and coordinated service
- Regularly check and clean dining tables, chairs, and surrounding areas to maintain cleanliness and a neat appearance
- Empty and clean garbage cans before, during and after each shift
- Wipe down tables and clean debris around dining area and sitting guests
- Assist with general cleaning tasks as needed, including restocking supplies, cleaning glassware, and bar
- Collect all recyclable garbage disposables and place on assigned garbage
- Assist in maintaining an adequate supply of disposable plates, containers and utensils
