The Busser position at the University of Kansas Social Club is an essential part-time role designed to support the restaurant’s service team by maintaining cleanliness and order throughout the dining area and assisting servers in delivering an excellent guest experience. The Busser ensures food and drink orders are delivered accurately and promptly to customers, while also clearing and resetting tables efficiently to prepare for new guests. This role requires close collaboration with servers, kitchen staff, bartenders, and other restaurant personnel, making it a key supporting function in delivering seamless service during events and regular dining operations. The position pays an hourly rate between $10.00 and $12.00 and is tip eligible, offering part-time employees access to benefits such as a 401(k) savings plan with matching contributions.

In this role, bussers act as the backbone of restaurant operations by fulfilling duties ranging from safely transporting food from the kitchen to tables, setting up tables with clean utensils and condiments, to maintaining dining area cleanliness throughout shifts. The role is fast-paced and requires attention to detail to ensure that every guest receives an outstanding dining experience. The Busser will regularly wipe down surfaces, empty and clean garbage receptacles, restock supplies, and collect recyclables, all contributing to a clean and welcoming environment. Candidates must be physically capable of standing and walking for long periods and able to lift and carry trays comfortably. Job Duties

  • Collect prepared food items from the kitchen and ensure their safe transportation to seating areas
  • Verify that the food being delivered matches the order details, paying attention to special requests, allergies, or dietary restrictions
  • Deliver food promptly to customers while it is still fresh and hot, ensuring that they receive their orders in a timely manner
  • Assist picking up drink orders at the bar and delivering them to the guest
  • Set up tables with clean utensils and condiments before guests arrive
  • Clear and reset tables promptly after customers have finished dining
  • Ensure tables are properly arranged and presentable for the next guests
  • Regularly check and clean dining tables, chairs, and surrounding areas to maintain cleanliness and a neat appearance
  • Empty and clean garbage cans before, during, and after each shift
  • Wipe down tables and clean debris around the dining area and sitting guests
  • Assist with general cleaning tasks as needed, including restocking supplies and cleaning glassware and the bar
  • Collect all recyclable garbage disposables and place them in assigned garbage bins
  • Assist in maintaining an adequate supply of disposable plates, containers, and utensils
