The Bartender role is a part-time position based at the University of Kansas Social Club, located at 1651 Naismith Drive, Lawrence, KS. Bartenders at the Social Club are responsible for serving a wide range of beverages, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, adhering to all relevant state and federal regulations concerning alcohol service. Bartenders must maintain a clean and sanitary bar area, manage inventory levels, and ensure compliance with company policies including ID verification and cut-off procedures for guests.
This position demands flexibility with scheduling, including availability for nights, weekends, and potentially long hours tied to event schedules. Successful candidates will possess prior bartending experience, preferably accompanied by formal bartending school training, along with high school diploma or GED. The role also requires strong cash handling and communication skills, the ability to prioritize tasks in a busy setting, and the capacity to work autonomously while contributing effectively within a team.

Job Duties
- demonstrate ability to meet company standards for guest service, interaction with co-workers, and uniform standards
- follow bar pre-shift notes and bar menus and provide service as described
- serve alcoholic beverages following proper procedures and regulations
- learn and suggest various beer, wine, and spirits to guests
- pour drinks responsibly according to company standards
- check guests' IDs for legal drinking age compliance
- communicate cut-off to guests as needed
- listen and respond to customer requests or concerns
- de-escalate intoxicated guest situations and contact management or security if required
- contact management if unable to resolve issues beyond standard decision-making
- request or restock products as necessary
- manage the issued bank at the bar
- maintain a clean and sanitary workstation and ensure bar equipment is clean
- assist with setting up and breaking down bar equipment and organizing the cooler as assigned
