The University of Kansas Social Club, located in Lawrence, Kansas, and managed by Oak View Group, is currently seeking a part-time Bartender to join their vibrant Food & Beverage team. This role involves the proficient service of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, demanding professionalism, a personable demeanor, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. The position requires flexibility and reliability, with workers expected to have excellent attendance and availability for scheduled events based on business needs. As a Bartender at the University of Kansas Social Club, the successful candidate will be expected to embody Oak View Group’s commitment to exceptional customer service and operational excellence. The ability to meet company standards for guest interaction, teamwork, and uniform presentation is vital. Bartenders will follow established bar protocols and menus, serve drinks responsibly in line with state and federal regulations, and maintain a thorough knowledge of current beer, wine, and spirits offerings to enhance guest experience through suggestive upselling.

A key aspect of the role involves verifying guest eligibility for alcoholic beverages through ID checks, managing guest safety by responsibly handling intoxicated customers including de-escalation techniques and contacting management or security when necessary, and efficiently managing bar resources including cash handling and inventory. Maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of the bar area is also crucial to meet health and safety standards. Additional responsibilities may include bar setup and breakdown and cooler organization.

Job Requirements

Six months or more experience bartending
High school diploma or GED preferred
Bartending school preferred
Accurate cash handling skills required
Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
Ability to be self-directed while working in a team-oriented environment
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights weekends and long hours

Job Duties

Demonstrate ability to meet the company standard for excellence in guest service interaction with co-workers and uniform standards
Follow the bar pre-shift notes and bar menus and provide service as described
Serve alcoholic beverages following all proper procedures for serving alcoholic drinks including state federal regulations
Responsible for learning or having knowledge of various beer wine varieties and spirits available and being able to learn to suggestively upsell products to guests
Pour drinks responsibly in accordance with company standards for serving size
Check the guest's ID in accordance with state federal regulations to verify the minimum age requirement for the purchase of alcoholic beverages
Communicate a cut-off to a guest as required
Listen and respond to any customer requests or concerns
Bartenders are expected to de-escalate intoxicated guest situations and contact management or security as required
Contact a management member if unable to resolve or make a decision beyond the scope of standard decision-making
Request additional products or restock products as needed
Responsible for the issued bank at the bar
Maintain a clean and sanitary workstation at all times and ensure that bar equipment is clean and well maintained
Other duties as assigned may include setting up and breaking down bar equipment as required and assisting with the organization of the cooler
