The Banquet Server position at the Rhode Island Convention Center & Amica Mutual Pavilion is a part-time, regular role designed to ensure impeccable food and beverage service during events. This role is essential in creating outstanding guest experiences, with the Banquet Server responsible for delivering professional, attentive, and efficient service that meets the event’s specifications and OVG’s elevated hospitality standards. The hourly wage for this role is $12.24 and is tip eligible according to the collective bargaining agreement. Tasks include reading and understanding Banquet Event Orders to execute services in line with event requirements, providing fine dining-level service, and maintaining a polished and hospitable environment. The server must be able to respond effectively to guest needs, anticipate requests, and adapt to various event formats – from casual receptions to formal dinners. Collaboration with kitchen staff and event coordinators is critical for timely meal service and upholding ambiance throughout the event.

Beyond the direct serving responsibilities, the Banquet Server also contributes to the overall event success through diligent cleanup and resetting of banquet spaces, ensuring readiness for successive events and maintaining cleanliness and organization in all service areas. This role demands a high level of professionalism, social interaction skills, and the ability to work both independently during slower periods and as part of a cohesive team during busier service times. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent GED strong preferred
  • Minimum of one (1) year of work experience in events, banquets or restaurants preferred
  • Ability to carry at least 8 entrees per tray
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends and select holidays
  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division)
  • Must be punctual with consistent attendance
  • Must be able to respond to simple complaints or inquiries from customers

Job Duties

  • Reads and understands banquet event orders
  • Provides fine dining level food and beverage service to guests for all events consistent with standards of service
  • Initiates and maintains friendly and professional contact with guests ensuring that all needs are anticipated and met
  • Setup and maintain both food and beverage stations in various locations throughout the building consistent with standards of service
  • Maintain and inventory for both food and beverage stations
  • Maintain all event areas and front of house staging areas in a tidy and organized manner
  • Participate in both setup and cleanup of food and beverage service items
