The Banquet Captain position at Oak View Group’s Palm Springs Convention Center is a part-time role dedicated to orchestrating flawless banquet services that contribute to memorable guest experiences. This role requires overseeing banquet staff, coordinating closely with culinary and event teams, and ensuring that service standards, event timelines, and specifications are consistently met. The Banquet Captain’s responsibilities include pre-event preparation, staff support during events, quality monitoring of food and service, and managing equipment and supplies crucial for banquet functions. The role demands a detail-oriented and adaptable leader with strong communication skills who can maintain professionalism and a high standard of service in a fast-paced event setting. Compensation for this position ranges from $22.00 to $25.00 per hour and includes access to a 401(k) savings plan among other benefits. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1-2 years of experience in banquet service or related field
  • Must meet legal age requirements for alcohol handling

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree
  • 1-2 years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must meet state age requirements for handling alcoholic beverages
  • Strong knowledge of banquet operations, service standards, and event execution
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to coordinate with kitchen staff, event coordinators, and service teams
  • Ability to guide and support staff including conducting pre-shift meetings and assigning responsibilities
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to evaluate service quality and make real-time adjustments for guest satisfaction
  • Knowledge of proper food handling, sanitation, and safety standards
  • Flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Commitment to regular and reliable attendance

Job Duties

  • Review assigned banquet staff functions and banquet menus prior to the scheduled event
  • Conduct pre-banquet meetings with staff to ensure appearance and hygiene standards are met, assign stations and partners, and review banquet event orders
  • Communicate with the Executive Chef, Kitchen Manager, or event coordinator to ensure all details are planned and met, and changes are made timely
  • Ensure appropriate quantities of china, glassware, silverware, linens, and other items are available, and requisition those not in inventory
  • Check room setup prior to events and confirm food quantities and timing with Executive Chef
  • Ensure proper handling and storage of equipment including china, glassware, silverware, linens, and props
  • Conduct random audits during functions to evaluate food and service quality
  • Review banquet schedules regularly for changes and special events
  • Incorporate safe work practices in job performance
  • Perform other duties as required
