This listing is for the position of Assistant General Manager within the University of Kansas Athletics food and beverage management team, directly affiliated with Oak View Group. This is a full-time, regular employment opportunity based at 1651 Naismith Drive, Lawrence, Kansas, with a competitive annual salary range of $75,000 to $85,000. The Assistant General Manager role is integral to supporting the General Manager in ensuring efficient, professional, and profitable operations of the venue. The position demands a proactive and hands-on approach to managing catering and concession services, ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards such as state and federal labor laws, sanitation, food safety, and alcohol service regulations.
The Assistant General Manager is tasked with overseeing a combination of full-time, part-time, and hourly employees across various departments. This includes actively supervising, coaching, counseling, directing, training, and mentoring staff to meet company quality standards and foster a positive and cooperative work environment. The role requires independent decision-making authority to initiate and authorize employment actions such as hiring, termination, discipline, and promotions. Additionally, the Assistant General Manager plays a critical role in managing employee relations, contributing to a harmonious and compliant workplace.
This position requires an individual with excellent attendance, availability for a variable event-driven schedule including evenings and weekends, and the ability to present themselves professionally. The successful candidate must possess outstanding interpersonal skills and be self-directed with strong management capabilities. Responsibilities encompass assisting in the management of all aspects of catered events, ensuring compliance with alcohol service policies, monitoring financial performance by generating and reviewing reports like budgets and profit and loss statements, resolving conflicts, and leading the development of a strong management team.
The Assistant General Manager will also engage in contract review and amendments, oversee scheduling and labor allocation, analyze ticket sales data for staffing projections, manage inventory cost control and menu planning, and maintain relationships with show managers, suppliers, vendors, and the public. Job Requirements
- BA or BS degree in business or related field
- 3-5 years of management experience in food or concessions industry
- Valid Food Handler's certificate
- Valid Alcohol Service Permit if required by state or local government
- Nationally recognized food service sanitation training course certification
- Concessions Manager Certificate from the National Association of Concessionaires
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to make decisions under pressure
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and POS systems
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, event-driven environment
- Knowledge of concessions locations and facility access
- Ability to manage cash responsibly
- High level of integrity and professionalism
- Ability to work independently

Job Qualifications
- BA or BS with a Business-related major
- Accounting minor or credits preferred
- 3-5 years of management experience in the food-related or concessions industry
- Concessions Manager Certificate from the National Association of Concessionaires
- Nationally recognized, advanced food service sanitation training course certification
- Ability to communicate with employees, co-workers, volunteers, management staff, and guests in a clear, professional, and courteous manner that fosters a positive, enthusiastic, and cooperative work environment
- Ability to make sound business/operations decisions quickly and under pressure
- Solid working knowledge of computer applications: Microsoft Office, POS systems, and timekeeping systems
- Ability to work well in a team-oriented, fast-paced, event-driven environment
- Possess a thorough working knowledge of all existing concessions and premium services locations: geographical location, equipment, evacuation procedures, adjacent employee and guest areas, and facility access
- Possess a valid Food Handler's certificate and Alcohol Service Permit if required by state or local government
- Valid Alcohol Service Permit if required by the state and/or county of the venue
- Familiar with inventory cost control and menu planning
- Possess thorough working knowledge of all applicable sanitation requirements, food preparation guidelines, alcohol service policies, safety standards, etc. pertaining to Oak View Group and venue concession and premium services operations
- Ability to calculate basic and complex math functions (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages)
- Ability to handle cash accurately and responsibly
- Ability to consistently adhere to the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, ethics, and confidentiality

Job Duties
- Assists in the overall effective management of the catering operations
- Ensures total compliance with all alcohol service policies
- Assist in the management of catered events from setup to teardown, including handling all communication with hourly staff, culinary staff & guests
- Ensure legal, efficient, professional, and profitable operation of the venue
- Generate and review financial reports, including budgets, projections, forecasting, revenue analysis, disbursements, capital investments, labor and product costs, wage and salary control, and P&L financial statements

- Provides each manager with the proper direction and follows up on all assignments
- Inspects the operation on a regular basis to ensure that the established quality standards are maintained
- Prepares required reports accurately and submits them on time

- Gives the managers clear direction and provides the necessary assistance for them to perform their work
- Assists the General Manager in evaluating each manager's performance and makes recommendations for their improvement
