The company proudly manages a collection of seven world-class venues and provides services to some of the most iconic arenas, stadiums, convention centers, music festivals, performing arts centers, and cultural institutions across four continents. OVG stands at the forefront of the live entertainment industry by delivering exceptional experiences through the seamless integration of operational excellence and innovative management strategies.
The University of Kansas Athletics, located in Lawrence, Kansas, is one of the venues operated under the OVG umbrella. This location offers a dynamic and unique work environment where sports and entertainment converge to create memorable events for guests and patrons. The Assistant General Manager position at this venue is a full-time role with an annual salary range of $75,000 to $85,000. This role is integral to the smooth and profitable operation of the university’s athletics food and beverage services.
As the Assistant General Manager, the incumbent will support the General Manager in managing day-to-day operations with a focus on efficiency, professionalism, and profitability. The role demands a hands-on approach in supervising managerial, full-time, and part-time staff to ensure high standards of compliance with labor laws, food and beverage regulations, sanitation requirements, and alcohol service policies. The Assistant General Manager is tasked with coaching, mentoring, and directing employees to achieve company quality standards, while independently managing employment decisions such as hiring, disciplinary actions, and promotions. This position also involves ensuring a harmonious and cooperative work environment, overseeing employee relations, and maintaining legal and regulatory compliance.
The role requires excellent attendance and the ability to work a variable, event-driven schedule that includes evenings and weekends. Applicants must demonstrate self-direction, strong management capabilities, and sound decision-making skills. The Assistant General Manager will collaborate closely with the General Manager to analyze financial reports, manage budgets, forecast revenues, control labor and product costs, and oversee contract authorizations. Responsibilities also include conflict resolution, staff scheduling, labor allocation, and maintaining strong relationships with show managers, suppliers, and the public.
The position is designed for someone with a solid background in the food and beverage industry, ideally with experience in concessions and hospitality management. The ideal candidate will hold a business-related degree, possess relevant certifications, and demonstrate advanced knowledge of food service sanitation and alcohol service regulations. They will be proficient in computer applications including Microsoft Office, POS systems, and timekeeping software. This role invites a professional who thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment and whose commitment to quality and integrity supports OVG's mission to deliver outstanding experiences at every event. The company offers comprehensive benefits including health, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) savings and matching plans, as well as paid time off including vacation, sick days, and holidays. This position is open until September 11, 2026, making it an exciting opportunity for qualified candidates to join a leading player in the live entertainment venue management industry.
