Job Description

Stellant Systems is a leading aerospace and defense company renowned for its cutting-edge space technology and propulsion systems. Located in Torrance, California, Stellant Systems specializes in designing and manufacturing space-qualified ion thrusters that power satellites and various spacecraft. As a prominent player in the aerospace industry, the company is committed to innovation, quality, and precision, contributing significantly to advancements in space exploration and satellite operations. The work environment emphasizes high standards of technical expertise, clean-room operations, and adherence to strict federal and international regulations, including ITAR compliance. Stellant Systems values diversity and inclusion, ensuring equal employment opportunities for all candidates regardless of background or status.

The Thruster Propulsion Assembler Technician A (LG - 18) role is a vital position within Stellant Systems’ manufacturing division. This full-time, hourly position, with a competitive pay range of $25.00 to $35.00 per hour depending on experience, offers the opportunity to contribute to the assembly and fabrication of advanced electric thrusters used in space applications. The technician will be responsible for performing specialized manufacturing processes such as gas tungsten arc welding, laser welding, spot welding, hydro-forming, and grid alignment. These tasks require great attention to detail and a thorough understanding of electric thruster components and assembly procedures.

The role demands proficiency in using various hand and power tools alongside precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, voltmeters, ohmmeters, and hi-potters for high-voltage and resistance measurements. Much of the assembly work occurs in a clean-room environment, ensuring compliance with industry and government cleanliness and safety standards. The ideal candidate will possess prior experience in manufacturing precision electronic products, preference given to those with electric thruster assembly background.

In addition to manual assembly skills, the position requires the ability to interpret technical documents including blueprints, schematics, and assembly instructions accurately. This technical reading ability ensures that the assembled units meet stringent quality and functional standards. Candidates must demonstrate teamwork and a cooperative attitude while also having the flexibility to work overtime as needed to meet production deadlines and schedules.

For those without prior welding certification, the company provides the opportunity to learn welding techniques and obtain certification, highlighting the company’s commitment to employee development. Basic computer literacy is also necessary to accurately document product data and maintain assembly records.

Physical capabilities such as lifting up to 60 pounds safely, standing for extended periods, and successfully passing a NASA eye eye exam—including the ability to recognize color codes—are essential to fulfilling the physical responsibilities of the role. A high school diploma or equivalent is a minimum educational requirement, ensuring candidates have the foundational skills for technical work.

Stellant Systems promotes an inclusive and equitable workplace and adheres strictly to U.S. Government export regulations. Therefore, applicants must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, or protected individuals under ITAR. This position offers a unique career path for technicians interested in aerospace manufacturing, with the opportunity to work on pioneering technology that supports critical missions in space exploration and satellite operations.
