Job Description

Rocket Farm Restaurants is a distinguished hospitality group known for its heartfelt commitment to serving both guests and team members with dignity, respect, and care. Rooted deeply in the philosophy, "We serve the person who is serving the guest," the company fosters a supportive and ethical work environment that extends beyond the restaurant floor into every interaction among the staff, especially within the kitchen. Established with a vision to create memorable dining experiences through high-quality food and exceptional service, Rocket Farm Restaurants operates multiple acclaimed venues across various cities, including Atlanta, Charlotte, Nashville, Houston, Raleigh, and Winter Park. Each restaurant within the group upholds a culture where teamwork, integrity, and respect are paramount.

Among its cherished establishments is The Optimist, a renowned seafood restaurant located in Nashville's Germantown neighborhood. The Optimist specializes in a casual, wood-fired menu that brings the coastal freshness of sustainably sourced seafood to landlocked Tennessee. Known for its vibrant atmosphere and culinary innovation, The Optimist is beloved by locals and visitors alike for its fresh, thoughtfully prepared dishes that celebrate the bounty of the sea.

Rocket Farm Restaurants currently seek an enthusiastic Sous Chef to join The Optimist team. This full-time role offers a competitive salary ranging from $55,000 to $70,000 per year, depending on experience, along with a generous quarterly bonus program. As a key member of the kitchen leadership, the Sous Chef will manage hourly and back-of-house staff and assist in daily kitchen operations spanning production, preparation, special and private events, stewarding, purchasing, and receiving. The Sous Chef’s expertise in various cooking methods and preparation techniques ensures every dish is prepared and presented with precision and served in a timely manner.

In addition to food production duties, the Sous Chef plays an integral leadership role by effectively guiding the kitchen team, maintaining a cohesive environment, and stepping in to lead during the Executive Chef's absence. Ideal candidates possess at least three years of progressive culinary experience, including time spent as a Lead Cook or Sous Chef. Those who thrive in high-pressure, dynamic environments and demonstrate calm, professional leadership will find this role fulfilling.

Rocket Farm Restaurants also prioritize employee well-being with full benefits eligibility after just 30 days of employment. Benefits include major medical, dental, vision, and life insurance. The company offers dynamic, performance-based raises and promotions, paid time off with additional parental and childbirth recovery leave to encourage work-life balance, and significant long-term retention bonuses. Employees enjoy time off on major holidays such as Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day, promoting meaningful rest and celebration. Added perks feature a 50% discount across all Rocket Farm Restaurant locations nationwide, participation in Rocket Farm University with specialized leadership development courses, and access to employee-led mentorship programs, advisory councils, and safety committees.

Working at Rocket Farm Restaurants means joining a group of unique, innovative, and passionate individuals committed to excellence, teamwork, and creating extraordinary dining experiences. The organization is an equal opportunity employer, dedicated to providing a diverse and inclusive workplace where every employee feels valued and supported. Applicants are encouraged to review their rights pursuant to federal employment laws. If you are a motivated culinary professional seeking to advance your career in a well-respected and caring restaurant group, consider applying to become a vital part of The Optimist’s kitchen staff as a Sous Chef. This position offers an exciting opportunity to lead with integrity and creativity while benefiting from a robust support system dedicated to your professional growth and personal well-being.
