Renaissance Charleston Historic District Hotel is a prestigious hotel located in the heart of historic downtown Charleston. This elegant property offers guests a memorable experience with its beautifully furnished rooms featuring marble bathrooms, modern amenities including 32-inch flat-screen TVs with cable and satellite channels, mini-bars, and tea and coffee making facilities. The role of Assistant Director of Front Office is a vital management position within the hotel, responsible for assisting with the direction and administration of all Front Office operations. This role ensures the consistent delivery of outstanding guest service while supporting the hotel’s financial profitability. The Assistant Director of Front Office provides leadership and guidance across various key areas including guest service standards, registration processes, room inventory management, cost controls, budgeting, and department management. The position supervises a team of Front Office associates, ensuring high performance through professional development, scheduling, and effective communication.

Additionally, this management-level role necessitates working with discretion and independent judgment to handle administrative, executive, and professional tasks more than fifty percent of the time. The Assistant Director also collaborates closely with the property’s Guest Loyalty Manager and participates in meeting facilitation and policy enforcement. Responsibilities extend to analyzing daily operational reports, resolving guest issues to satisfaction, recruiting and training staff, and managing corporate marketing and upselling initiatives designed to maximize room occupancy and revenue. Emergency response certification is also required, including knowledge in operating the Fire Panel and coordinating with emergency personnel.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business or Hospitality Management preferred
  • At least 3 years of progressive Front Office management experience in a 500+ room hotel preferred
  • Applicable Associate's degree with at least 1 year of Front Office management experience required
  • Specific brand experience or OnQ Property Management System certification preferred
  • Must supervise at least 3 full-time associates or equivalents
  • Must perform administrative, executive, or professional tasks more than 50% of the time
  • Must use discretion and independent judgment more than 50% of the time
  • Certified to respond to emergencies including operation of the Fire Panel

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Assists with directing and administering all Front Office operations including guest service and registration, room inventory and availability, guest service standards and initiatives, product quality, cost controls and overall profitability, brand marketing initiatives developed by the revenue team, systems use and management, budgeting and forecasting, department management, policy and procedure implementation and enforcement and meeting participation and facilitation
  • Monitors and develops associate performance to include providing supervision and professional development, scheduling, conducting counseling and evaluations and delivering recognition and reward
  • Monitors and assesses service and satisfaction trends, evaluate and address issues and make improvements accordingly
  • Initiates and implements marketing and up-selling techniques to promote hotel services and facilities to maximize room occupancy and overall revenue
  • Implements and monitors all corporate marketing programs
  • Ensures associates have current knowledge of hotel products, services, facilities, events, pricing and policies and knowledge of the local area and events
  • Runs and completes daily reports, analyzes data and makes decisions based on data
  • Resolves guest issues and concerns to guest satisfaction
  • Recruits, interviews and trains associates
  • Participates in the Property Manager on Duty program
  • Is certified to respond to emergencies including operation of the Fire Panel and communication with emergency personnel
  • Completes tasks or projects as assigned or required
