Job Description

Raytheon Technologies is a leading aerospace and defense company with a rich heritage spanning over 100 years. Renowned for its engineering expertise, Raytheon is dedicated to helping the United States and its allies defend freedoms and deter aggression by providing innovative solutions to complex challenges. As a tech-driven enterprise with a focus on national security, Raytheon brings together advanced technology and mission-critical systems to protect and strengthen defense capabilities worldwide. The company values safety, trust, respect, accountability, collaboration, and innovation, which are deeply embedded in its culture and guide its operations and performance.

The Principal Design Engineer position is a critical role based in Huntsville, Alabama, working onsite at a significant Raytheon facility. This role is situated within the Test Solutions Engineering Center (TSEC), a multi-discipline organization within the Hardware Engineering Discipline that focuses on developing production and engineering test equipment solutions for all Raytheon products. The TSEC team employs the latest technologies and tools, integrating state-of-the-art software with cutting-edge engineering systems utilized in labs, factories, and production environments to test weapon system products effectively.

This position demands a seasoned hardware engineer with a strong background in electrical design and factory test systems. The engineer will play a pivotal role in supporting the design, development, integration, and maintenance of electronics for on-site factory support, aiding the development and delivery of weapon system products. Responsibilities include electrical and interconnect design, electrical system analysis, and ensuring that the integrated development environment meets factory and organizational specifications. The Principal Engineer will lead small teams and collaborate across multidisciplinary groups to troubleshoot and improve hardware and test equipment instrumentation. The role also involves engaging with engineering, operations, and program personnel to ensure factory readiness and product robustness.

Candidates must have an active DoD Secret clearance on day one, with U.S. citizenship required due to security clearance eligibility. The successful candidate typically holds a Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with at least eight years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with a minimum of five years’ experience. Experience in electrical engineering design, schematic capture tools, troubleshooting, and test system development is essential. Preferred qualifications include familiarity with electrical design software (Altium, DX Designer, Mentor Capital, Creo Schematic), factory test instrumentation, production test equipment development, and knowledge of computer architecture and protocols like TCP/IP, UDP, and RS-422.

Raytheon provides a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term and long-term disability, 401(k) match, paid time off, parental leave, and more. The role offers a competitive salary range between $107,500 and $204,500, reflecting the candidate’s experience level and skills. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated professional to contribute to critical defense technology solutions in a dynamic, collaborative, and innovative environment dedicated to national security and technological advancement.
