Job Description
Colonial Life & Accident Insurance Company is a well-established financial protection company headquartered in Columbia, South Carolina. With a history spanning over 75 years, Colonial Life has dedicated itself to helping America's workers safeguard and protect what they have worked so hard to build. Serving more than 3.7 million people across over 86,000 companies, Colonial Life offers an extensive range of financial protection options including personal benefits counseling. The company is recognized as a pioneer in payroll deduction and a leader in enrollment technology innovation, which together with its comprehensive capabilities, allow Colonial Life to deliver unmatched customer service. The organization employs over 10,000 sales representatives and more than 1,000 home office professionals, all focused on supporting clients during critical moments of life.
The role of Territory Sales Trainer at Colonial Life plays a vital function within this expansive organization. This position involves training and developing new 1099 sales managers and representatives across a designated territory, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed. The trainer will lead onboarding activities which include demonstrating consultative selling skills, role-playing, and coaching on how to effectively handle objections using consistent methods. A key part of this role is driving territory prospecting activities by conducting joint field work, leading call clinics, and managing lead tracking and follow-up. Additionally, the Territory Sales Trainer delivers designated classroom training via both virtual and in-person sessions, engaging newly contracted sales personnel through interactive exercises and meaningful feedback.
Beyond training responsibilities, this position contributes to achieving broader territory goals which encompass recruiting, broker representative development, and portfolio quality management. As an integral member of the Territory Core Team, the trainer supports multiple initiatives related to new product rollouts, quarterly national events, and the communication between field sales and the home office. Candidates for this role should possess leadership capabilities enabling them to drive company programs and initiatives with minimal supervision while managing their own time effectively.
The position requires 75% travel within the territory, reflecting the necessity of hands-on fieldwork and face-to-face engagement with sales managers and representatives. Colonial Life’s culture emphasizes teamwork, strong interpersonal skills, and a commitment to maintaining a positive corporate image. Ideal candidates will have prior sales experience, management or coaching background, and the willingness to obtain necessary insurance licenses. The company also values proficiency in technology platforms and experience with adult education techniques. In terms of compensation, fully and partially leveraged roles follow a uniform sales compensation plan, primarily commission-based, with salary ranges dependent on role leverage.
The comprehensive benefits package at Colonial Life further underlines their commitment to employee welfare, offering healthcare coverage including health, vision, and dental plans, short and long-term disability insurance, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement savings plan featuring employer contributions. The organization promotes diversity and equal opportunity, ensuring a welcoming environment for all qualified applicants.
