Job Description

Terra Mae Restaurant is an innovative dining establishment located in the vibrant Alberta Arts Neighborhood of Portland, Oregon. Known for its unique culinary experience, the restaurant celebrates a distinctive fusion of Portuguese and Japanese flavors. Terra Mae is currently looking for a dedicated and visionary Lead Bartender to take charge of its beverage program and foster a high-standard service culture. This full-time leadership role reports directly to the Director of Food and Beverage and the Executive Chef. The Lead Bartender will oversee all bar operations at Terra Mae, as well as support bar functions across other Food & Beverage outlets within Cascada. This position requires a blend of creativity, organizational skills, and passion for delivering exceptional customer experiences.

The Lead Bartender will be responsible for crafting creative cocktails that harmonize with the restaurant's Portuguese-Japanese fusion menu. They will manage inventory meticulously, monitor costs to minimize waste, and oversee vendor relationships to ensure the bar is always well stocked. In addition, this role serves as a critical point of contact for guests, guiding them through menu selections with deep knowledge of the ingredients, preparation methods, and cultural stories behind the offerings.

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in customer service by maintaining a warm and inviting atmosphere, assisting with order accuracy and efficiency, and ensuring a clean, organized bar and dining area. Collaboration with kitchen and front-of-house teams is essential to foster seamless communication and optimized guest satisfaction. The Lead Bartender also plays a pivotal role in training the service staff, imparting expertise on spirits, wine pairings, and the narratives that enhance guest engagement. This role requires a calm and commanding presence during busy shifts to lead the team effectively and maintain high standards of service.

Compensation for this position starts at $18 to $25 per hour depending on experience, with additional earning potential through tips. Job Duties

  • Warmly greet and welcome guests ensuring a friendly and inviting atmosphere
  • Acquire a deep understanding of food and drink menus including ingredients preparation techniques and cultural background to provide informed recommendations
  • Collaborate with the bar team to design cocktails that complement the Portuguese Japanese fusion menu
  • Prepare and serve craft cocktails wine and other beverages maintaining precision and creativity in every drink
  • Monitor pour costs minimize waste and manage inventory with high precision
  • Accurately take and input food and beverage orders ensuring timeliness and attention to detail
  • Serve food and beverages with a keen eye for presentation showcasing quality and artistry
  • Manage relationships with vendors and ensure the bar is fully stocked
  • Keep the dining area and bar tidy refilling drinks and clearing dishes as needed
  • Work closely with kitchen and front-of-house staff to ensure smooth service and communication
  • Suggest menu items pairings and beverages to enhance guest experience and increase sales
  • Accurately handle payments issue receipts and ensure a seamless checkout experience
  • Educate the service team on spirits wine pairings and the story behind every drink
  • Maintain a calm commanding presence during high-volume shifts to keep the team grounded
