Job Description

Heinz Chapel, located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is a historic and iconic non-denominational chapel renowned for hosting weddings, memorial services, and various events for decades. Part of the University of Pittsburgh campus, Heinz Chapel is a breathtaking venue known for its stunning Gothic architecture and beautiful stained-glass windows. The chapel proudly serves a diverse community and remains an exceptional setting for ceremonies that celebrate significant moments across different faiths and backgrounds, making it a cherished landmark in the region. The team at Heinz Chapel is committed to providing exceptional service and thoughtful attention to every event, ensuring each celebration is memorable for the couples and guests involved.\n\nThe role of Temporary Wedding and Events Coordinator at Heinz Chapel is a part-time, temporary position designed for individuals passionate about event planning and customer service. This coordinator will act as the primary representative of Heinz Chapel during weddings and other events. Responsibilities include managing communications with wedding couples in the weeks prior to their big day, collaborating closely with officiants during rehearsals, and overseeing smooth coordination throughout ceremonies. The coordinator ensures all vendors, such as photographers and videographers, adhere to the chapel's guidelines and timing. Additionally, the role demands stewardship of the chapel building, including securing access via keys and badges and opening or closing the facility as needed.\n\nThis position offers a dynamic work environment where the coordinator will also develop a technical understanding of the chapel's audio, lighting, and recorded organ systems. Flexibility is crucial as weekend and evening hours are a regular part of the schedule, with the incumbent typically expected to work about two weekends per month. The position begins at a pay rate of $20 per hour, with an opportunity for an increase to $21.50 after the first three months of training. While this is a temporary role without potential for permanent staff placement, it provides valuable experience in event management within a historic and vibrant setting. The coordinator must handle complex situations sensitively and diplomatically, maintaining a service-oriented approach suited to diverse cultural and religious ceremonies. Physical activity is an inherent part of the job, including walking through the chapel and grounds during events and lifting objects up to 30 pounds. Reasonable accommodations will be provided to support those with disabilities. The University of Pittsburgh is an equal opportunity employer, promoting diversity and inclusion in its hiring practices.
