The Temporary Food Service Transporter position at HCPSS plays a vital role in the efficient operation of the Food and Nutrition Service department. This temporary job involves the transportation of food items, supplies, and equipment between central food production facilities and various school food service satellite locations. The position requires close collaboration with Food and Nutrition Service supervisors and area representatives to ensure timely and safe delivery of essential food products necessary for school meal programs. Transporters must adhere to strict food safety guidelines, maintain vehicle cleanliness, and keep accurate route records. This role is essential to supporting the overall mission of HCPSS to provide nutritious meals to students, thereby promoting their health and well-being. Job Requirements
- Completion of a standard high school diploma or GED
- at least three years of driving experience
- possession of a valid Maryland Motor Vehicle Operator’s License with an acceptable driving record
- ability to lift and carry items weighing 50 pounds or more
- ability to work varying hours
- eligibility to work in the United States
- successful completion of fingerprinting and criminal background check
- provision of proper identification and documentation for employment eligibility
- submission of a complete application including proof of education
- no major driving infractions such as DUIs or license suspensions
- must comply with Maryland Employment History Review
Job Qualifications
- Completion of a standard high school diploma or GED
- at least three years of driving experience
- possession of an appropriate and valid Maryland Motor Vehicle Operator’s License (non-CDL accepted) with an acceptable driving record
- good knowledge of local streets and road systems
- knowledge and understanding of sanitary food handling techniques and their impact on food safety
- ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions
- ability to communicate effectively with Food and Nutrition Service staff and school officials
- ability to comply with all regulations for the handling of food items
- ability to perform manual labor including lifting and moving equipment and supplies
- excellent oral and written communication skills
- ability to properly maintain confidential information
Job Duties
- Operates a box truck or approved vehicle to transport food products and supplies
- maintains the cleanliness of the vehicle
- keeps an up-to-date route sheet in the vehicle at all times
- transports food from designated schools to other schools or distribution points according to pre-approved routes, delivery times, and schedules
- complies with proper food handling techniques while maintaining the highest standard of quality and food safety practices
- inspects food and food related supplies for conformity to orders and reports shortages, damages or spoilage, and other discrepancies
- arranges and moves food items to and from inventory and cold storage areas to other food sites as needed
- attends food and nutrition training and meetings as necessary to meet USDA professional standards for school nutrition employees
