Job Description

Syracuse University, located in Syracuse, New York, is a renowned private international research university with a rich history spanning over 150 years. It stands out for its distinctive academic programs, a diverse array of offerings, and a vibrant campus spirit. The university caters to more than 15,000 undergraduate students and over 6,000 graduate students across 13 schools and colleges, offering more than 200 majors, 100 minors, and 200 advanced degree programs. Syracuse University boasts a global presence with alumni spread across 160 countries, and it emphasizes inclusivity and equal opportunity in admissions, employment, and university activities.

The Temporary Part-Time Event Production Assistant position is based within the Dome Operations team, one of the university’s dynamic operational units responsible for setting up, managing, and breaking down events hosted at the iconic Dome arena. This role is vital in supporting various large-scale events such as football and basketball games, major concerts, Monster Jam events, and many other special occasions that bring together the university community and surrounding region. The position offers temporary, part-time employment with a pay rate of $16.00 per hour and requires flexible scheduling to accommodate the varying hours and dates of events, including nights, weekends, and some holidays. The role provides a unique opportunity to be part of a longstanding team, where many members have contributed their expertise for over 30 years, demonstrating a strong tradition of commitment and teamwork.

As an Event Production Assistant, individuals will play a hands-on role in the physical transformation of the Dome’s event space, including event changeovers such as switching flooring, setting up stages, tables, chairs, pipe and drape systems, signage, and other configurations specific to each event’s requirements. This role emphasizes teamwork and communication, as assistants operate under the guidance of the Event Operations Manager and work collectively to ensure smooth, efficient event preparations and breakdowns. The position also occasionally involves assisting with maintenance and cleaning duties to prepare the arena environment to the highest standards.

Beyond the operational aspects, this role provides an engaging experience for individuals who enjoy active, collaborative work environments and want to contribute to the memorable event experiences at a major university venue. Syracuse University offers a collegial atmosphere that fosters professional growth and the chance to build long-term connections within a strong supportive team. Located in Syracuse, a culturally rich city in central New York with affordable living and numerous recreational opportunities, this role is well suited for individuals seeking flexible part-time work while engaging with the vibrant academic and community life surrounding the university.
