Job Description

The University of Notre Dame Operations, Events, and Safety (UOES) division is seeking on-call and temporary Bakers to join their Three Leaf Catering team. UOES is responsible for the university's event management, hospitality services, and customer care, supporting a wide range of activities including student life, academic events, research functions, and large milestone celebrations throughout the year. This position offers an opportunity to work in a flexible, hands-on role focused on bakery and pastry production tailored to the diverse needs of the campus community and special events.

As a Temporary Baker, you will work under the supervision of senior bakers and culinary leadership. The role requires producing a variety of bakery items ranging from simple pastries like cookies and muffins to more intricate products including laminated doughs, mousse cakes, artisan breads, and plated desserts. This position suits candidates with varying levels of baking experience who have a passion for quality, food safety, and hospitality. You will engage in tasks such as precise measuring, mixing, assembling ingredients, operating kitchen equipment safely, and decorating pastries with attention to detail. Maintaining a clean and organized work area while adhering to strict food safety standards such as ServSafe is essential.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • prior experience in baking or pastry work preferred but not required
  • ability to follow detailed instructions and standardized recipes
  • capability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks related to baking
  • familiarity or willingness to learn food safety standards such as ServSafe
  • strong communication skills
  • flexibility to work varied shifts including weekends and holidays

Job Duties

  • Prepare and bake a variety of bakery items including cookies, muffins, cakes, laminated doughs, mousse cakes, artisan breads, and plated desserts
  • measure, scale, mix, and assemble ingredients accurately according to standardized recipes and chef instructions
  • operate and maintain kitchen equipment such as mixers, ovens, and proofers safely and efficiently
  • participate in the decoration and finishing of pastries including glazing, piping, and plating
  • maintain mise en place and support event production including live event stations and customer-facing service when needed
  • follow and uphold food safety and sanitation protocols such as ServSafe standards
  • maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment ensuring proper storage of ingredients and finished goods
  • collaborate with culinary team members to meet production schedules, quality standards, and service needs for daily operations and special events
