Job Description
Sonoma County Indian Health Project, Inc. (SCIHP) is a respected health care organization dedicated to providing comprehensive medical services to the Native American community in Santa Rosa, California, and surrounding areas. The organization prioritizes culturally sensitive health care tailored to the unique needs of Native American populations, respecting their diverse cultural heritage, traditions, and historical context. SCIHP is well-known for its commitment to improving health outcomes through exceptional medical care, education, community outreach, and support services. The organization places a strong emphasis on creating a welcoming environment that fosters trust, comfort, and effective communication between healthcare providers and patients, thereby promoting the overall well-being and health of the communities they serve.
The Temporary Medical Receptionist role at Sonoma County Indian Health Project plays a critical part in maintaining this standard of exceptional service. Reporting to the Medical Office Manager, this position is responsible for front-line communication and reception support. The receptionist provides courteous, helpful, and proactive communication to patients, ensuring that their healthcare experience is as smooth and effective as possible. This role involves scheduling and confirming patient appointments, managing daily appointment schedules, and providing assistance both in person and via telephone. The position is essential for accurate and timely data entry, including patient demographics and insurance information, which directly impacts the clinic's operational efficiency and patient care quality.
This temporary position requires someone who is both motivated and compassionate, capable of managing patient anxieties, answering questions, and actively informing patients about possible delays or waiting times. The receptionist must be highly organized to maintain a smooth workflow in the reception area. Additional duties include greeting patients warmly, checking them in using the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system, and directing calls to the appropriate personnel or departments. The role also involves basic interviewing skills to gather necessary information, explain clinic policies, clarify details as needed, and ensure confidentiality of all patient and employee information.
Working at SCIHP means joining a collaborative team that values teamwork and mutual support, with the receptionist expected to assist with workloads beyond the primary responsibilities when needed. This role also requires coordination with Patient Service Specialists, especially regarding non-funded patient assistance. Candidates must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical examination, and background investigation as part of the hiring process. Given its vital role, the Temporary Medical Receptionist position offers an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to an organization dedicated to health equity for Native American communities, providing a supportive workplace and meaningful work in healthcare administration.
