The role of Food Service Worker at Andover Public Schools is vital in maintaining these high standards. This position focuses on preparing and serving food that meets stringent quality and sanitary guidelines. The individual in this role is responsible for using cooking equipment correctly, adhering to recipes and serving sizes, and ensuring that food service is conducted efficiently and professionally. The position involves assessing food quality using objective and subjective measures, monitoring food and equipment temperatures, and complying with meal pattern standards for student meals. Additionally, this role demands strict adherence to safety protocols in food preparation, storage, and service.

Crucial responsibilities also include managing food deliveries by properly labeling, dating, and rotating inventory according to the first-in, first-out (FIFO) method, assisting with placing orders under supervisory support, and maintaining personal hygiene and sanitation standards. The worker handles monetary transactions through the operation of the point of service (POS) system for students and adults and is tasked with inventory management and completing daily bank deposits. The position requires attending ongoing training workshops to stay current with job practices and safety guidelines.

Under the supervision of the Operations Supervisor, Nutrition Coordinator, and Director of Food and Nutrition Services, the Food Service Worker may also have the responsibility of supervising part-time, full-time, or temporary staff, although disciplinary actions remain outside their authority. This role demands physical stamina including standing, walking, talking, hearing, and operating kitchen equipment, along with occasional lifting and moving of items up to 50 pounds.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • experience in food service or food preparation
  • ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • ability to operate kitchen equipment safely
  • ability to handle money and operate a POS system
  • ability to follow safety and sanitation standards
  • attendance at job-related training sessions required

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • prior experience in food preparation or food service desirable
  • knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards
  • ability to operate kitchen equipment safely
  • experience with POS systems a plus
