Ingham County is a reputable government entity dedicated to providing a broad range of community health and social services to residents of Lansing, Michigan and surrounding areas. The county operates various departments, including the Womens Health Center, which is committed to delivering compassionate, high-quality healthcare services to women and families. The organization is known for its supportive work environment, commitment to public health, and a team-oriented culture that values dedication and professional growth. This particular opening is for a temporary position located at 5303 S. Cedar St., Lansing, MI, offering an hourly wage of $20.50, governed under the bargaining unit of UAW (United Auto Workers) Group CBA. The position is structured as a temporary role with continuous hiring until a suitable candidate is found, making it an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking flexible employment in a healthcare administrative setting.
The Womens Health Center is seeking a Medical Clerical and Customer Service professional to join their dynamic team. This role involves a variety of administrative and clerical duties essential for the smooth operation of multiple clinics under the Ingham County Health Department (ICHD) and Ingham County Health Center (ICHC). The employee will work under the direction of supervisors and operations managers to provide comprehensive support services that include client registration, appointment scheduling, insurance verification, data entry, and billing. They will serve as a primary point of contact for patients and visitors, responding to inquiries about departmental procedures, program eligibility, and schedules.
This role is multifaceted, requiring both excellent communication skills and the ability to manage multiple clerical tasks efficiently. Responsibilities include processing patient information through electronic health record (EHR) systems, managing healthcare documentation in adherence to HIPAA regulations, and providing support for specialized programs such as immunizations, dental clinics, and refugee services. The position demands proficiency in office software, medical terminology, and the ability to assist in outreach and educational activities for clients and staff regarding health programs and telehealth platforms.
Ideal candidates will have at least a high school diploma or equivalent and one year of clerical experience, preferably with some exposure to healthcare environments. The role requires physical capability to perform duties such as filing, operating office equipment, and occasional lifting of items up to 35 pounds. Additionally, the job may require traveling between various clinic locations within the county, and exposure to clinical settings where there is potential contact with communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
Working conditions blend office and clinic environments, supporting a variety of health initiatives crucial to community well-being. This position plays a vital role in maintaining the efficiency and quality of services provided by the Womens Health Center, ensuring that client interactions and administrative processes are handled with professionalism and care. Employees in this role also contribute to compliance with healthcare regulations and support the health department's broader mission to enhance public health in Ingham County.
