Job Description

Nami Nori is a pioneering restaurant based in New York City, renowned for being the first establishment specializing in open-style sushi hand rolls, also known as "temaki." Embracing the Japanese philosophy of "omotenashi," which translates to the art of gracious hospitality, Nami Nori is committed to delivering exceptional dining experiences that celebrate the rich tradition and culinary artistry of Japanese cuisine. With a strong presence both in the local community and online, Nami Nori has garnered popular acclaim and recognition from prestigious publications such as The New York Times, Michelin Guide, and The New Yorker. Boasting a robust Instagram following of 68,000, this establishment continues to attract lovers of Japanese food and culture by offering creative, high-quality hand-rolled sushi that stands out in the competitive culinary landscape of New York City's West Village.

Nami Nori is currently seeking enthusiastic and personable Sushi Hand Roll Chefs to join their dynamic team. This role is perfect for culinary professionals or food enthusiasts who are passionate about cooking and hospitality but may not necessarily have prior Japanese culinary experience, as comprehensive training is provided. The Sushi Hand Roll Chef will be responsible for crafting sushi hand rolls for both dine-in and take-out guests while also engaging directly with customers to enrich their dining experiences. This position offers an exciting opportunity for candidates eager to deepen their knowledge of Japanese ingredients and cooking techniques within a welcoming, supportive environment.

As a full-time position, the compensation includes a competitive hourly wage supplemented by tips, with weekly earnings approximately ranging from $800 to $1000. Employees at Nami Nori enjoy a suite of benefits designed to support their well-being and professional growth. These include 56 hours of paid time off annually, an additional 40 hours of vacation after two years of employment, commuter benefits, a pre-tax health care spending program, employee dining discounts across all Nami Nori locations, performance-based incentives, and opportunities for advancement within a growing company.

Ideal candidates demonstrate a genuine passion for cooking and hospitality, maintain a positive and flexible attitude, and possess a strong work ethic. Additionally, candidates should have excellent organizational skills, the ability to multitask efficiently, and enjoy working as part of a team. Previous restaurant experience of one year or more is preferred but not mandatory. Flexible availability, including nights, weekends, and holidays, is essential for this role.

Nami Nori is an equal opportunity employer committed to maintaining a drug-free workplace and compliance with ADA regulations, fostering an inclusive environment where all employees can thrive.
