This particular role is for an Evening Shift Supervisor within the Blood Services Department at BDMC, categorized under the Lab job function. In this position, the incumbent will provide general operational supervision to assigned laboratory personnel under the guidance of the director or manager. The supervisor is responsible for organizing, directing, and controlling various aspects of workflow in the blood services section to optimize service quality and enhance operational efficiency. The role involves hiring, training, and performance management of staff, including initiating promotions, transfers, and disciplinary actions, establishing work priorities, schedules, and procedures, and resolving day-to-day issues by applying Six Sigma and Lean methodologies.

Beyond personnel management, the supervisor oversees budgetary compliance by managing labor resources and implementing waste reduction strategies. They collaborate closely with management to ensure laboratory compliance with accreditation requirements from regulatory bodies such as the College of American Pathologists (CAP), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA). Additionally, they uphold occupational safety standards in accordance with OSHA guidelines.

A key component of the role involves participating in, and occasionally leading, task forces aimed at maximizing service quality, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency. The supervisor develops and monitors key performance indicators to ensure quality patient care and timely communication of vital information internally and to parent organizations. This position offers a pay starting at $36.75 per hour and includes eligibility for management or sales incentive programs as part of the total compensation package. Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a chemical physical biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology
  • Four years of training and experience in high-complexity testing in the respective specialty
  • Ability to apply Six Sigma and Lean concepts and methodologies
  • Effective leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to manage budgets and resources
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements including CAP CMS AABB FDA CLIA and OSHA
  • Commitment to maintaining a drug-free work environment

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a chemical physical biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology
  • Four years of training and experience in high-complexity testing in the respective specialty
  • Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science preferred
  • MLS or specialty certification preferred
  • One year of supervisory experience preferred
