The role of a Service Engineer at Liebherr USA Co. is a critical position responsible for diagnosing, adjusting, and repairing sophisticated port equipment such as harbor mobile cranes, reach stackers, and ship cranes. This position combines technical expertise with strong customer support capabilities, requiring the engineer to interact directly with customers and service personnel to provide technical assistance both remotely and on-site. The Service Engineer is expected to handle mechanical repairs and modifications, operate and inspect heavy equipment, and ensure compliance with manufacturer specifications. Additionally, this role involves training service engineers and customers, assisting with spare parts inquiries, and maintaining high quality and safety standards within the service department. The role requires a proactive and professional demeanor, strong communication skills, and the ability to lead and mentor others as necessary. Given that travel is up to 25%, including international trips, flexibility and adaptability are essential. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum 1 year experience with Liebherr Maritime Cranes as Technician or Service Engineer
  • Must communicate effectively in English
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 25% of the time
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver license and passport
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, or on call duty

Job Qualifications

  • High school graduate or GED or proof of equivalent qualification
  • At least 1 year direct experience with Liebherr Maritime Cranes and experience in the field as a Technician or Service Engineer
  • Must be able to comprehend, speak and write the English language
  • Demonstrates initiative to visualize, organize, manage, and complete projects in individual and group settings
  • Ability to interface with all levels of staff
  • Demonstrates ability to handle confidential information
  • Assist the company in any necessary duties to achieve company goals
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
  • Proficiency in PC based word processing and spreadsheets
  • Ability to multi-task while completing work in a competent and professional manner

Job Duties

  • Diagnose, adjust and repair port equipment such as harbor mobile cranes, reach stackers, ship cranes over the phone and via email
  • Provide technical support to service engineers and customers as needed
  • Assist service engineers, customers and spare parts department with part-related questions
  • Provide technical training and support to service engineers and customers as needed
  • Travel to customer locations to provide the highest level of technical support when required
  • Maintain and operate the service department when the service manager is out of the office
  • Set the positive example in punctuality and professional demeanor by respectful communication with all levels of staff, keeping work areas clean and orderly, and promoting safety regulations and all other company programs
  • Test mechanical products and equipment after repair or modification to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturer’s specifications
  • Repair and replace damaged or worn parts
  • Operate and inspect machines or heavy equipment in order to diagnose defects
  • Dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools
  • Clean, lubricate and perform routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles
  • Examine parts for damage or excessive wear using micrometers and gauges
  • Read, understand, and interpret operating manuals, parts manuals, blueprints and technical drawings
  • Overhaul and test machines or equipment to ensure operating efficiency
  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments
  • Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications
  • Complete assigned paperwork as instructed
  • Oversee the maintenance of quality standards through visual and mechanical inspection methods
  • Promote a safe work environment by ensuring compliance with established safety procedures
  • Oversee the handling and disposing of hazardous wastes
  • Successfully complete factory authorized training
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of Sculi and Crane Management software
  • Prepare for jobs by checking parts and drawings for accuracy and completeness
  • Complete jobs independently with little assistance from others
  • Properly fill out working reports, hour’s reports, timesheets, hour’s overviews and expense reports
  • Assist customers with troubleshooting and part-related questions when needed
  • Attend training sessions as required
  • Maintain a minimum set of tools required for job performance
  • Care and maintain company tools, machines and equipment
  • Maintain a positive attitude and serve as a role model for other employees
  • Maintain company service literature and stay aware of technical changes
  • Assume the lead person position when necessary
  • Train and/or mentor others in the department
