Job Description
Big R is a well-established retail company known for its extensive range of products and customer-centric approach. Operating in multiple retail departments, Big R offers a one-stop shopping experience where customers can find everything from sporting goods to automotive accessories. With a focus on quality and community, Big R has built a reputation for providing not only a wide variety of goods but also exceptional service. The company prides itself on its relaxed work environment, where employees are encouraged to bring a strong work ethic and a passion for making a positive difference. Team members at Big R are valued for their dedication and ability to adapt across various departments, making it a dynamic and supportive workplace.
The role available at Big R is that of a versatile retail associate who will work across several departments including cashier, sporting goods, tack and pet, hardware, automotive, clothing, boots and accessories, yard, and receiving. This position is ideal for individuals who thrive in a fast-paced retail environment and enjoy engaging with customers. Employees will be expected to provide outstanding customer service by greeting customers warmly, assisting with product inquiries, and facilitating smooth sales transactions. In addition to customer interaction, associates are responsible for stocking and organizing shelves to ensure the store is presentable and products are easily accessible. This role requires adaptability since associates will rotate through different departments depending on business needs.
To succeed in this role, candidates need to have a positive attitude and demonstrate professionalism at all times. Physical stamina is important as the job involves standing, walking, and occasional lifting of items up to 50 pounds. The ability to operate computer systems including point of sale (POS) terminals is also essential for processing transactions and verifying inventory. Weekend availability is necessary as the store operates a rotating schedule. Some positions within the store, such as the yard and receiving departments, require applicants to be at least 18 years old due to background check requirements, while positions in sporting goods require employees to be at least 21 years old to meet certification standards.
Beyond the primary responsibilities, retail associates will contribute to general store upkeep by maintaining cleanliness in all areas, answering phone calls and two-way radio communications, and making store announcements when needed. This role offers a starting wage that is commensurate with experience, reflecting the company’s commitment to rewarding skill and dedication.
Working at Big R comes with several benefits that contribute to employee well-being and financial security. These include paid time off, medical, dental, and vision insurance options for eligible employees, as well as a 401K retirement plan. Employees also enjoy discounts on a wide range of products, further enhancing the value of working with Big R. Overall, this position is perfect for self-motivated individuals who want to build a career in retail while working in a supportive, varied, and engaging environment.
