Each cafe in The Works family uniquely reflects the character and needs of the local communities it serves, creating a warm and inviting environment where customers can enjoy nourishing meals made from carefully sourced, healthy, and local ingredients. The menu includes a variety of bagels, breakfast and lunch sandwiches, soups, salads, smoothies, fresh-baked sweets, and more—all designed to promote the health and well-being of customers, team members, and the environment alike. Founded on the principles of community engagement and sustainability, The Works continues to grow by fostering a vibrant, inclusive culture that values each individual's contribution and encourages personal and professional growth. The company offers full-time and part-time employment opportunities with competitive pay ranging from $20.00 to $23.00 per hour, including average tips, making it an attractive place for those passionate about food service excellence and community care.
We are currently seeking enthusiastic and friendly individuals to join our front-of-house team in Amherst, MA, either as Team Members or Shift Leaders. The Team Member role is ideal for those who thrive in fast-paced environments and enjoy engaging directly with customers. Responsibilities include greeting and serving customers with a smile, handling cash transactions, preparing handcrafted menu items such as smoothies, sandwiches, salads, soups, and more, and ensuring that the café remains clean and organized. Candidates should possess strong communication skills, an ability to multitask effectively, and a genuine commitment to customer satisfaction.
The Shift Leader position builds upon the foundational skills of a Team Member, adding leadership and administrative responsibilities. Successful Shift Leaders oversee daily operational tasks including cash handling, enforce service and operational standards with enthusiasm and dedication, and play an integral role in developing and mentoring café staff through timely and constructive feedback. The ideal candidates for this role exhibit confidence in guiding and leading others and maintain composure under pressure in a high-energy café setting. Both roles demand punctuality, neat appearance, and physical stamina to stand, walk, bend, and handle various tasks throughout an 8-hour shift.
In return for your dedication and effort, The Works offers industry-leading benefits, including employee discounts on nourishing meals, competitive pay with pooled staff tips, paid vacations to recharge, comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as performance-based bonus opportunities. Joining The Works means becoming part of a community that values health, quality ingredients, exceptional service, and supportive team culture, offering ample opportunities for career advancement and growth.
