The role of Maintenance Team Leader at Rich's is a pivotal position within the company’s manufacturing segment, located in Crest Hill, IL. This leadership position requires supervising a unit responsible for maintaining the plant's equipment, buildings, and facilities to ensure smooth and efficient production operations. The Maintenance Team Leader provides technical expertise in maintenance related to electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic engineering, with a focus on adhering to maintenance schedules established by the Plant Engineer. They coordinate the efforts of maintenance, electric, and hydraulic work teams, providing essential support and ensuring that all maintenance activities comply with company standards and regulatory requirements.

In this role, the Maintenance Team Leader acts as a mentor and motivator, fostering the development of associate skills and optimizing team performance with a strong emphasis on training and professional growth. They handle communication of performance standards, recognize and reward accomplishments, and address any performance issues constructively. The role demands keen analytical skills to diagnose mechanical and operational problems, plan corrective actions, and ensure that equipment malfunctions and quality issues are addressed promptly.

The Maintenance Team Leader is responsible for scheduling preventive maintenance checks and inspections to avoid disruptions in the production schedule. They analyze production delays and maintain detailed reports to inform management and facilitate continuous improvement. Additionally, this role involves the upkeep of plant facilities and grounds, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, company policies, and fiscal discipline.

Beyond day-to-day maintenance, the Maintenance Team Leader plays a strategic role by assisting in preparing bids for major equipment purchases and representing Rich's interests when dealing with contractors, vendors, and engineering consultants. They may also oversee plant safety initiatives including coordinating fire safety inspections and addressing safety deficiencies, contributing to the development of safety and maintenance policies, and assisting in budget preparation for facility and equipment maintenance.

Candidates for this position should have a high school diploma or GED along with HVAC licensing, with a preference for candidates holding a BA/BS degree in Engineering or a related field. The ideal candidate will have at least three years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing setting, specifically with knowledge of refrigeration, plumbing, industrial electrical and mechanical systems, automated manufacturing processes, preventive maintenance, safety management, and regulatory compliance including FDA and OSHA standards.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • HVAC licensing
  • Minimum 3 years supervisory experience in manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of refrigeration, plumbing, industrial electrical and mechanical systems
  • Experience with automated manufacturing process controls and equipment
  • Working knowledge of FDA regulations, GMP, sanitation processes, and HACCP
  • Demonstrated knowledge of preventive maintenance and safety management
  • Ability to direct, coach, and train associates
  • Strong problem-solving and mechanical aptitude
  • Proficient in Excel or other spreadsheet software
  • Ability to formulate and understand complex mathematical equations

Job Duties

  • Coordinate maintenance, electric, and hydraulic work teams and provide engineering support

  • Support annual budget preparation for maintenance and safety
  • May manage machine parts storeroom operations
  • Stay updated on manufacturing technologies and engineering concepts
  • Support Process Improvement Teams and charter execution
