This full-time position offers variable shifts throughout the day, including 6am-2:30pm, 10am-6:30pm, and 12pm-8:30pm, providing flexibility to meet operational needs. The Team Leader plays a critical role in supporting the Food Service Supervisor in managing daily operations, with a special focus on the training and development of food service associates. This leadership position involves supervising hourly staff, ensuring compliance with UPMC policies, department standards, and guidelines that maintain high-quality food service operations. The role requires oversight of inventory security and cash revenues, offering accountability in managing valuable resources.
Key responsibilities include orienting, training, and coaching new team members to align with departmental standards. The Team Leader also monitors the department’s food safety program, promptly addressing and mitigating any identified hazards to protect health and safety. They conduct quality control and assurance checks to ensure services meet regulatory compliance, perform competency evaluations on associates, and handle customer service challenges through documented service recovery processes.
Additional duties involve monitoring food quantity and quality to ensure that meal services meet menu and special request requirements. The Team Leader also maintains the operation’s sanitation standards to guarantee continuous inspection readiness, thereby upholding UPMC Hamot’s reputation for excellence and safety. Job Requirements
- HS diploma or GED preferred
- 2 years relevant experience required
- ANAB - National Accreditation Board or Servsafe certified
- Allegheny County Health Dept or other certified food protection manager certification required within 6 months of hire
- American National Accreditation Board Certification
- Act 34 clearance

Job Duties
- Supervise hourly associates and their adherence to all UPMC policies and procedures and department standards and guidelines
- Oversee security of inventory and cash revenues
- Orient, train, and coach new team members as per department guidelines
- Monitor all aspects of the department's food safety program routinely and take immediate and appropriate action to identified hazards
- Supervise services according to department standards and complete quality control and quality assurance checks to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies
- Perform routine competency checks on associate performance with appropriate follow-through
- Conduct and document service recovery on all customer complaints as per operational guidelines
- Monitor food quantity and quality to ensure appropriate product is available for meal service according to menu and special requests
- Monitor all aspects of the operation's sanitation program on a daily basis to ensure inspection readiness at all times
