Job Description

Indiana University Health is Indiana's most comprehensive health system, with a network comprising 15 hospitals and nearly 40,000 dedicated team members serving communities statewide. Connected closely with the Indiana University School of Medicine, this partnership ensures that IU Health team members benefit from cutting-edge medical research, continuous professional education, and the latest advancements in healthcare science. This collaboration not only enhances patient care but fosters an environment of innovation and excellence within the health system. Indiana University Health upholds a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, ensuring equal employment opportunities regardless of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, age, disability, genetic information, veteran status, or any other legally protected characteristics. The organization provides reasonable accommodations to individuals with disabilities throughout the application, interview process, and employment lifecycle to ensure accessibility and equal opportunity for all candidates.

The position of Team Lead-Food and Nutrition is located at Methodist Hospital and encompasses a second-shift schedule from 12:30 pm to 9:00 pm, with required rotating weekends. Eligible for shift pay differentials, this role offers an opportunity for those who are passionate about leading and supporting frontline team members within a hospital food and nutrition services unit. The Team Lead role provides non-supervisory leadership, which balances hands-on involvement with the responsibility of guiding team members to achieve high standards of quality, safety, and accountability. This position centers around supporting the Food and Nutrition team in their daily operations, including task coordination, onboarding and training of new staff, and ensuring the availability and readiness of supplies and equipment.

A key aspect of this role involves maintaining service consistency through coordinated work assignments and coverage plans while fostering positive team culture. The Team Lead actively participates in team huddles, shift briefings, and effective communication channels to keep staff informed and motivated. Serving as a role model, the incumbent demonstrates professionalism, attention to detail, and adherence to departmental policies and procedures, especially in high-pressure or sensitive care environments. Regular performance audits and quality checks are integral duties, enabling prompt correction of any issues and escalation when necessary to maintain standards.

This role requires significant physical activity including standing for long periods, climbing ladders, and lifting supplies weighing up to 35 pounds frequently. The Team Lead must also adhere strictly to health and safety regulations, including the use of protective clothing and equipment such as gowns, gloves, goggles, and rubber-soled closed-toe footwear, in compliance with local health laws and hospital standards. The position demands basic computer proficiency and the ability to operate standard kitchen equipment safely and effectively. Candidates must possess or be willing to acquire ServSafe Manager Certification within six months of hire.

This role is well-suited for individuals with 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in food and nutrition services, particularly within a healthcare setting. The successful candidate will be committed to upholding IU Health's values and fostering a supportive work environment that prioritizes the health and satisfaction of patients and team members alike.
