The Finance Analyst role at American Airlines is a vital part of the Finance Team within the Finance Division. This position is designed for individuals who are ready to take on challenges by providing strategic financial analysis and support to drive meaningful business decisions. The role involves assisting in the design and implementation of comprehensive strategic plans, tracking financial and productivity performance, and participating in forecasts, capital plans, staffing analyses, and cost-reductions studies. The Finance Analyst helps manage projects that contribute to identifying revenue-generation opportunities and improving cost-efficiency across the company. Leading training, coaching, and mentorship of junior analysts and interns is a key responsibility, ensuring knowledge-sharing and strengthening of the team's capabilities. This role offers a unique opportunity to engage with cross-functional initiatives, evaluate industry trends, develop reports that inform leadership decisions, and coordinate both near-term and long-term financial planning to align with corporate action plans.

In addition to routine financial analysis, the Finance Analyst supports annual operating budget development and capital plan processes, including financial close and reviewing business expenses monthly. Candidates are expected to exhibit superior analytical and leadership skills, adaptability in analytical methodologies, and the ability to manage multiple projects with minimal supervision. Familiarity with tools such as Microsoft Office, Excel modeling, and preferred software like Hyperion, SAP, Tableau, or PowerBI is highly valued.   • Excellent teamwork skills with proven ability to work effectively in a variety of situations
  • Ability to accept ownership, responsibility and accountability of functional obligations
  • Proven success in a team environment and ability to influence change
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, work well with little supervision, and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to create and deliver PowerPoint presentations to all levels including Vice President and above
  • Consistent demonstration of leadership potential
  • Ability to develop relationships across organizations
  • Understands corporate objectives and industry trends

Job Duties

  • Actively leads training, coaching, and mentorship for other analysts and interns
  • Independently manages projects through completion
  • Assists managers in creating a culture of open communication and continuous improvement
  • Performs peer review of analysts' work
  • Supports and participates in driving initiatives across the Finance organization
  • Participates on projects that help drive business recommendations or decisions
  • Evaluates competitive strategies and industry trends to determine impact on current or contemplated action plans
  • Develops reports which can lead to informed decisions by business leaders
  • Coordinates near and long-term planning activities to ensure consistency and compliance with corporate action plans
  • Develops the annual operating budget and models used to forecast operating expenditures
  • Coordinates annual capital plan process and tracks actual and forecasted capital spend on current/future projects
  • Creates business cases and financial analysis for capital proposals to secure capital funding
  • Completes monthly financial close and review of business expenses
