Job Description
Team Hope Walk is the flagship grassroots fundraising campaign organized by the Huntington's Disease Society of America (HDSA). Since its inception in 2007, the program has grown profoundly, hosting events in over 100 cities and raising more than $26 million to advance the mission of HDSA. The organization's core purpose is to support individuals and families affected by Huntington's disease (HD), a devastating neurological disorder. Through these community-centered events, HDSA mobilizes volunteers, participants, and supporters to generate vital funds that help improve the quality of life for those impacted by HD. The Team Hope Walk campaigns are not only about raising money but also about fostering hope, awareness, and solidarity among participants who share a personal connection to the cause.
The role of the Team Hope Walk Check-In Volunteer is pivotal in creating a welcoming and efficient experience for walkers who participate in these fundraising events. Volunteers in this position serve as the first point of contact for participants, providing a friendly and organized check-in process that ensures everyone starts their event on a positive note. This includes directing participants smoothly through the check-in steps, helping with online registration confirmations, and managing walk-up registrations with paper forms. Additionally, volunteers are responsible for collecting and documenting donations, primarily through technology such as Square Reader devices, which helps maintain accurate fundraising records.
Beyond administrative tasks, this role emphasizes excellent customer service and enthusiasm, as volunteers encourage participants in their fundraising efforts and contribute to the overall vibrant and supportive atmosphere of the event. The position requires comfort with technology, particularly iPads and Square Readers, and the ability to interact warmly with diverse groups of people. Volunteers also help distribute participant t-shirts as a token of appreciation for their efforts and commitment.
Because the Team Hope Walk is such a significant event for HDSA, the volunteers’ role directly impacts the organization’s ability to raise funds and awareness. This is a rewarding opportunity for individuals looking to contribute meaningfully to a cause that affects many families, improve community engagement, and gain valuable experience in event coordination and volunteer service. No prior experience is strictly necessary, but a passion for the mission and excellent interpersonal skills are highly valued.
