Job Description

DICK'S Sporting Goods is a leading retailer in the sporting goods industry, dedicated to equipping athletes of all abilities with quality sportswear, gear, and equipment to help them achieve their dreams. Founded with a commitment to making a positive impact through sports, the company proudly fosters an inclusive and diverse workforce that reflects the communities they serve. With a passionate team united by a shared mission, DICK'S Sporting Goods has become a trusted name for customers seeking both expert advice and exceptional products in an engaging retail environment.

Working at DICK'S Sporting Goods goes beyond just a typical retail job; it offers a chance to be part of a dynamic team where individuals are welcomed, supported, and empowered from their very first day. The company places a strong emphasis on creating memorable athlete experiences by anticipating needs and delivering knowledgeable service. Team members at DICK'S are encouraged to be coachable, accountable, collaborative, and trustworthy — core values that contribute to the company’s reputation for excellence and innovation.

The position of Team Captain of Operations represents a critical leadership role within the store, focused on driving operational excellence across all facets of the shopping experience. This role requires managing both the visible sales floor operations and the behind-the-scenes processes such as inventory, fulfillment, and stockroom management. The Team Captain is responsible for coaching their team to execute merchandising, pricing, and signage standards effectively, ensuring consistency and an athlete-ready atmosphere at all times.

Beyond daily operational duties, the Team Captain partners closely with the Store Manager (SM) and Assistant Store Manager (ASM) to create and implement 30-60-90 day business plans targeting sales growth, merchandising initiatives, staffing, and operational efficiency, aligned with budgetary and financial goals. The role includes acting as the head coach during times when they are the sole leader present in the store, overseeing store opening and closing procedures, cash office functions, and overall team supervision.

Communication and team leadership are paramount for this position. The Team Captain directs departmental goals, assigns work based on team members’ skills, and monitors the achievement of plans to ensure smooth store operations and superior athlete service. They are also accountable for recruiting, hiring, onboarding, training, coaching, and mentoring team members, with a strong focus on motivation, performance management, and professional development. The role demands enforcing company policies on safety, loss prevention, and legal regulations, promoting a respectful and welcoming environment for both teammates and athletes alike.

Offering a salary range of $52,500 to $66,500, this role is part of a competitive total rewards package that may include incentives, equity, and comprehensive benefits. DICK'S Sporting Goods is committed to equitable pay practices and regularly reviews wages to maintain fairness. Team members also gain access to a generous benefits suite designed to support their health, wellbeing, and work-life balance. With an emphasis on innovation, authenticity, and fairness, the hiring process includes virtual interviews with cameras on and prohibits the use of AI tools to uphold security and integrity.

Joining DICK'S Sporting Goods as a Team Captain of Operations is a unique opportunity to combine a passion for sports with leadership in a fast-paced retail setting. Candidates who thrive in this role often possess strong interpersonal skills, a strategic mindset, and a dedication to operational excellence. If you are ready to make an impactful difference by creating outstanding athlete experiences and leading a motivated team, DICK'S Sporting Goods invites you to be part of their winning culture and contribute to their mission of positively changing lives through sports.
