The position of Team Captain – Endzone & Loyalty at DICK'S Sporting Goods is a vital leadership role that blends customer service, team management, and operational oversight to enhance the athlete experience. As a Team Captain, you will be responsible for delivering fast, friendly, and accurate checkout experiences while building strong relationships with athletes which drives retention and loyalty program engagement. This role requires an individual who is coachable, accountable, collaborative, and trustworthy, bringing a passion for both sport and customer service. You will play a significant part in leading company programs such as customer loyalty initiatives, warranty sales, and private label credit card enrollment.

Beyond frontline customer engagement, the Team Captain collaborates with store management to develop strategic 30-60-90 day plans focused on business priorities. This includes supporting operational initiatives, managing staffing and hiring needs, and ensuring merchandising standards are maintained according to established budgets and financial goals. Taking leadership when acting as the sole manager in the building includes overseeing daily store operations such as opening and closing procedures, supervising teammates, and managing front-end functions including cash office responsibilities.

Effective communication and team management are also key aspects of this role. The Team Captain is tasked with assigning workloads, monitoring progress towards departmental goals, and adjusting staffing schedules to meet athlete traffic demands while maintaining operational success. Additionally, you will build and lead a strong, effective team by overseeing recruiting, onboarding, training, and coaching efforts to ensure all teammates deliver positive athlete experiences consistently. You will also manage performance, conduct annual reviews, provide development feedback, and maintain compliance with company policies and safety regulations.

Job Duties

  • deliver outstanding athlete experiences by anticipating athlete needs and providing clear, accurate, and knowledgeable information about products and assortment
  • uphold company merchandising and presentation standards by following established floor sets, signage requirements, price changes, inventory presentation, replenishment standards
  • promote and lead company programs such as customer loyalty program participation, warranty sales, private label credit card enrollment
  • contribute to the development of 30-60-90 day plans to support business priorities for assigned departments
  • help establish working plans related to operational initiatives, staffing, hiring needs, operational and merchandising sets
  • execute plans and make adjustments as needed using independent judgment and analysis of plan effectiveness
  • act as Head Coach and perform general store oversight including opening and closing procedures, Front End and Cash Office functions, teammate supervision
  • communicate departmental goals and plans to direct reports and assign workload based on skill levels
  • monitor progress against plans and pivot to ensure uninterrupted operations and athlete support
  • develop effective schedules for direct reports and adjust as needed to meet athlete traffic demands
  • build and lead a strong, effective team through sourcing, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and retaining teammates
  • ensure all teammates are properly trained, provide coaching, feedback, development, recognition, and motivation
  • manage performance including annual reviews, promotional recommendations, and hold teammates accountable for compliance with policies and procedures
