The role of Team Captain - Apparel at DICK'S Sporting Goods is a vital leadership position within the store, responsible for driving sales and delivering exceptional shopping experiences specifically in the Apparel department. As a key player in the store, the Team Captain also steps into the role of Head Coach when needed, overseeing overall store operations including opening and closing procedures and cash management.

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1-3 years of experience
  • Previous retail or customer-facing experience required
  • Previous people leadership experience preferred

Job Duties

  • Deliver outstanding athlete experiences by anticipating athlete needs and providing clear, accurate, and knowledgeable information about products and assortment
  • Uphold company merchandising and presentation standards by following established floor sets, signage requirements, price changes, inventory presentation, replenishment standards
  • Promote and lead company programs such as customer loyalty program participation, warranty sales, private label credit card enrollment
  • Contribute to the development of 30-60-90 day plans to support business priorities for assigned departments in collaboration with Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager
  • Execute operational initiatives, staffing, hiring needs, and merchandising plans within established budgets and financial goals
  • Communicate departmental goals and assign workload based on skill levels to maximize efficiencies
  • Build and lead a strong, effective team by sourcing, hiring, onboarding, training, coaching, providing feedback, and managing performance
  • Adhere to and enforce established policies and procedures related to safety, loss prevention, and operational standards
  • Hold teammates accountable for compliance and performance
