Job Requirements
- Commitment to trauma-informed, gender-responsive youth development and passion for the mission
- Ability to engage diverse learning styles
- Creativity, patience, flexibility, and emotional intelligence
- Knowledge of inequity issues impacting girls and young women of color
- Understanding of complex issues facing girls in underserved, low socioeconomic areas
- Strong problem solving, interpersonal relationship, and communication skills
- Availability to work evenings and some weekends
- Valid PA driver's license with excellent driving record, reliable vehicle, insurance 300/100,000 and registration
- Ability to make safe and appropriate decisions during crises
- Must demonstrate respect for cultural diversity
- Clearance for PA Act 33, Act 34, Federal Criminal History Record, and National Sex Offender Registry
- Willingness to work in fast-paced, afterschool and community kitchen settings
- Physical ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
Job Qualifications
- Culinary or pastry arts training through formal education or comparable professional experience
- Minimum 2-3 years of pastry and baking experience
- Experience working with youth in afterschool, community-based, or educational settings
- Prior teaching experience strongly preferred
- Food safety knowledge
- ServSafe certification preferred or willingness to obtain
- Ability to engage diverse learning styles
- Strong problem solving and interpersonal communication skills
- Understanding of inequity issues impacting girls and young women of color
- Commitment to trauma-informed, gender-responsive youth development
Job Duties
- Plans, coordinates, and delivers hands-on baking and pastry programming for youth ages 8-18
- Develops a seasonal, age-appropriate curriculum and lesson plans
- Teaches youth how to make baked goods and other menu items from scratch
- Demonstrates fundamental through advanced pastry techniques and leads engaging, inclusive hands-on labs
- Builds supportive relationships with youth using baking as a tool for confidence-building and social-emotional learning
- Maintains a safe and sanitary kitchen environment while leading cooking labs
- Manages inventory, ingredients, and equipment within budget
- Prepares baked goods for special events and community showcases
- Collaborates with staff, tracks attendance and outcomes, and completes documentation
- Integrates Sanctuary principles to promote social-emotional growth and enthusiasm for nutritious eating
- Actively participates in team meetings, trainings, and supervisory sessions
- Performs duties in accordance with system-wide competencies and receives performance evaluations
- Performs other duties as assigned
