The Porte role within The Tap Room at The Langham Huntington offers an important position responsible for the initial preparation and servicing of all service areas. Reporting directly to the Tap Room Manager, this role focuses on ensuring that the bar and service zones maintain the highest levels of readiness and cleanliness, contributing to the overall guest experience. The position requires hands-on work performing duties such as retrieving orders, verifying stock accuracy, handling perishables, assisting with stock maintenance, and managing cleanliness in compliance with health and safety standards.

The successful Porter will have a keen attention to detail, physical stamina, and the ability to perform various cleaning and maintenance duties in a fast-paced environment. Practical knowledge of alcoholic beverage preparation and the ability to follow liquor laws regarding serving alcohol responsibly are critical. This role also demands strong manual dexterity for tasks like cutting garnishes, scooping ice, tapping kegs, and moving stock. Additionally, the Porter must communicate effectively in English and have a good understanding of written instructions, product labeling, and safety protocols.

Job Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Previous hospitality experience preferred
  • Food handler's certification required
  • Ability to work and stand for long periods
  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing a minimum of 50 pounds
  • Must be knowledgeable in preparation and service of alcoholic beverages
  • Basic mathematical skills
  • Manual dexterity for handling bottles, glassware, ice, and kegs
  • Basic English language skills
  • Ability to comprehend written instructions
  • Ability to work in confined spaces
  • Ability to lift and move goods up to 150 pounds using hand cart or truck
  • Ability to perform duties in varying temperature ranges

Job Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred
  • Previous hospitality experience preferred
  • Food handler's certification required
  • Knowledgeable in preparation and service of alcoholic beverages
  • Basic mathematical skills to ensure proper delivery amounts and understand portion sizes
  • Sufficient manual dexterity to use knives and handle glassware and bottles
  • Basic knowledge of English to understand customer inquiries and communicate simple instructions
  • Ability to comprehend written product labeling and safety instructions
  • Ability to work in confined spaces

Job Duties

  • Retrieve orders from storeroom and verify stock accuracy with storeroom personnel and bartenders
  • Cut, slice, and peel perishable garnishes and fruits, mix and pour juices according to projected business
  • Check and assist bartender in maintaining adequate supplies such as stir sticks, napkins, and matches
  • Transport taps, replace and perform routine maintenance on heavy beer kegs
  • Maintain cleanliness of bar area, beer lockers, refrigeration and storage areas to comply with health code standards
  • Scoop ice and replenish ice containers for usage
  • Box and save empty liquor bottles for later returns and requisitions
  • Attend mandatory meetings
  • Perform general cleaning tasks to adhere to health and safety standards
  • Keep work area clean and organized
  • Complete other duties as assigned by supervisor including cleaning guest spills
  • Adhere to all state, federal and corporate liquor regulations pertaining to serving alcoholic beverages to minors and intoxicated guests
