Job Description

Anduril Industries is a cutting-edge defense technology company specializing in autonomous systems and artificial intelligence. The company is focused on innovating advanced solutions that enhance national security by providing comprehensive defense capabilities. Anduril operates at the intersection of software, hardware, and real-world operations, delivering products that push the boundaries of modern military technology. With a strong emphasis on autonomy and scalability, Anduril is a leader in developing state-of-the-art platforms designed for maritime, aerial, and land domains. The Multinational Digital Infrastructure (MDI) team at Anduril is responsible for building and maintaining the classified networks, sovereign cloud environments, and data transport architectures that connect maritime autonomous platforms across the United States, United Kingdom, and Australia. This team plays a crucial role by enabling seamless communication and operational coordination across AUKUS nations, fostering integrated and scalable warfighting capabilities that leverage autonomous systems.

The Tactical Network & Mission Systems Engineer role at Anduril is a highly specialized engineering position within the MDI team. This role involves designing, implementing, and validating the network infrastructure that supports autonomous maritime platforms, which include undersea vehicles, surface vessels, aerial systems, and seabed sensors. As Anduril seeks to unify communications across diverse platforms that operate on different protocols and timelines, this position is essential in building a cohesive network architecture enabling a distributed autonomous fleet to function as a coordinated warfighting system. The engineer will work hands-on to develop software-defined networks, integrate various communication modalities such as undersea acoustic, surface radio frequency, satellite backhaul, and classified multinational cloud networks. Collaboration is key as the role demands working with principal architects and cross-functional platform engineering teams to transform networking strategies into operational capabilities.

This role is not limited to theoretical planning; it requires a practical approach where the engineer actively writes code, configures network infrastructure, debugs real-world problems, and validates system performance in live environments, including at-sea demonstrations. The impact of this role extends beyond mere technical development—it enables Anduril's autonomous maritime platforms to operate resiliently in contested and degraded environments where network connectivity is often challenged. Moreover, the role involves developing multinational network architectures that ensure secure and compliant classified data exchange across US, UK, and Australian sovereign environments. The Tactical Network & Mission Systems Engineer will also contribute to architecture decisions by prototyping solutions, conducting performance tests, and providing data-backed recommendations that influence overall networking strategies.

By joining this team, engineers contribute to a mission critical to national defense, integrating a range of technologies that collectively form the communication backbone of a pioneering autonomous fleet. This role involves travel and participation in operational exercises, demonstrating network solutions in real-world military-relevant scenarios. The position offers a unique opportunity for engineers with expertise in tactical networking, software-defined network orchestration, and autonomous systems to work at the forefront of defense innovation in a highly collaborative environment.

Job Requirements

  • Degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or related field
  • 6-10 years experience in network engineering or tactical network systems
  • Proven ability to write code, configure network infrastructure, and debug production systems
  • Experience with software-defined networking and distributed communication
  • Familiarity with military networking protocols and classified data handling
  • Strong problem-solving skills and systems-level thinking
  • US citizenship
  • Active Secret security clearance or ability to obtain TS clearance
  • Willingness to travel approximately 25%
  • Clear communication skills

Job Qualifications

  • 6-10 years of experience in network engineering, software-defined networking, distributed communications systems, or tactical network engineering
  • Experience with military or defense networking including HAIPE/Type 1 crypto, cross-domain solutions, tactical datalinks, coalition networking, or classified network interconnection
  • Experience building networking solutions for autonomous systems or distributed mission-critical systems
  • Strong depth across network stack including physical layer (RF, acoustic, optical, satellite), transport protocols, and software-defined orchestration
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with engineering teams collaboratively
  • Systems-level thinking and ability to translate mission requirements into network performance specifications
  • Clear communicator able to explain technical tradeoffs to engineers and non-technical stakeholders
  • US citizenship with active Secret clearance (minimum), TS preferred
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Top Secret security clearance

Job Duties

  • Design and implement network infrastructure, SDN control planes, protocol integrations, and transport solutions for maritime autonomous systems
  • Build cross-domain transport solutions spanning acoustic modems, tactical RF, satellite backhaul, and classified terrestrial networks
  • Work cross-functionally with platform teams to develop common interfaces and solve integration problems
  • Develop and validate networking solutions for contested and degraded environments including mesh networking and priority-based traffic management
  • Implement multinational network architecture enabling classified data flow between US, Australian, and UK sovereign environments
  • Support operational exercises and demonstrations by delivering network infrastructure in at-sea environments
  • Contribute to architecture decisions through prototyping solutions and performance testing
  • Build scalable networking solutions capable of supporting fleets from 2 to 200 vehicles
  • Document and share tooling, patterns, and documentation for networking layer coherence
