This opening is for a full-time, onsite Systems Engineer position at CAI, offering a salary range between $85,000 and $95,000. The role focuses on owning and enhancing server and platform operations across both on-premises infrastructure and Microsoft Azure cloud environments. The Systems Engineer will play a critical role in improving system reliability by standardizing builds, automating processes, enforcing disciplined patching schedules, and ensuring dependable backup mechanisms. Beyond day-to-day server maintenance, this role will be essential in driving initiatives that reduce repeat incidents, optimize vulnerability remediation performance, and strengthen disaster recovery readiness.

The position requires hands-on expertise in managing Windows Server platforms and involves responsibilities such as provisioning, configuration, lifecycle management, and robust backup and recovery procedures. The successful candidate will support core IT services including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy operations while maintaining compliance with security standards. Additionally, this role includes virtualization platform support like VMware, capacity management, and performance troubleshooting. Expertise with Microsoft 365 administrative support, enterprise voice systems, and VoIP incident management is highly valued.

Candidates for this role will use their strong PowerShell scripting skills alongside other automation tools to reduce manual interventions and improve operational efficiency. Responsibilities also include writing and maintaining runbooks, build standards, and technical documentation, as well as participating in incident response and root cause analysis to foster continuous improvement. The Systems Engineer will also be part of an on-call rotation, responding to after-hours incidents with professionalism and technical aptitude.

This role demands a seasoned professional with at least four years of experience in enterprise Windows Server environments, combined with a proven record in patch management, backup and restore operations, and virtualization management. Working knowledge of Azure and Microsoft 365, including Exchange and SharePoint, is indispensable, as is experience with network services and security aligned with industry standards such as NIST or HIPAA.

Job Requirements

  • 4 or more years of hands-on experience supporting Windows Server in an enterprise environment
  • Strong experience with patch management and server operations including troubleshooting performance and availability issues

Job Duties

  • Improve server reliability and reduce repeat incidents through standard configurations and root cause fixes
  • Raise patch and vulnerability remediation performance through consistent scheduling, validation, and reporting
  • Improve recovery readiness through restore testing, clear runbooks, and predictable backup operations
  • Reduce manual work through scripting and repeatable build processes
  • Engineer and support Windows Server platforms across on-prem and Azure, including provisioning, configuration, and lifecycle management
  • Own server patching and vulnerability remediation, including scheduling, validation, and rollback planning
  • Own backup operations and recovery testing, including routine restore tests and documented recovery procedures
  • Support identity and core platform services, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy operations in coordination with security standards
  • Support virtualization and storage operations, such as VMware or equivalent, capacity checks, performance triage, and host health
  • Support Azure operational needs tied to server workloads, including VM operations, images, RBAC assignments, tagging support, and monitoring
  • Build and maintain monitoring and alerting for server and platform health
  • Tune noisy alerts and define clear escalation paths
  • Write and maintain automation scripts for routine operations using PowerShell and one additional scripting language where practical
  • Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to after-hours incidents per established procedures
  • Participate in incident response and after-action reviews. Drive root cause analysis and remediation plans with measurable follow-through
  • Maintain runbooks, build standards, and documentation. Keep documentation current after approved changes
  • Work within change control practices and coordinate planned maintenance with stakeholders
