The System Engineer position at Leidos embodies this spirit of innovation and leadership. This position demands expertise in the design, development, and integration of various IT systems, including cloud environments, hardware, software, and machine interfaces. Beyond technical proficiency, the System Engineer may serve as a technical lead guiding up to 10 or more team members. This leadership aspect involves collaboration with Communications Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), Spectrum Managers, and other stakeholders to ensure all NASA mandates are satisfied. The job entails detailed RF interference testing to safeguard other operations from adverse effects within the RF environment and providing heightened technical support during mission-critical NASA periods. The engineer will also manage cellular services including vendor relationships, operation, maintenance, and enhancements within NASA facilities, coordinating installation, procurement, and maintenance activities.

The role spans numerous technical domains such as VoIP and telephone services, overseeing the operation, maintenance, and engineering support for existing telephony infrastructure, with attention to Power over Ethernet (PoE) technologies and UPS backups. Additionally, it covers emergency warning systems capable of disseminating critical notifications during emergencies, public address systems transitioning to IP-based frameworks linked to VoIP infrastructure, and radio services supporting ongoing and future communications capabilities. The System Engineer will also manage multimedia systems, cable plant services for comprehensive telecommunication infrastructure support, emergency telecommunications in disaster scenarios, mission launch support, and network services managing wired and wireless infrastructure and troubleshooting.

Job Requirements

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or related field
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in network engineering or 12 years of equivalent experience

  • Knowledge of systems engineering principles and IT integration

Job Duties

  • Collaborate with Communications Subject Matter Experts, Spectrum Managers, and stakeholders to meet NASA requirements
  • Conduct RF interference testing and monitoring to protect mission operations
  • Provide cellular services management including vendor relationships, implementation, and maintenance within NASA facilities
  • Support procurement activities, including statements of work and vendor evaluation
  • Coordinate with facilities management for antenna and equipment installations
  • Provide installation coordination, scheduling, and on-site vendor escort
  • Oversee third-party cellular repeater services and maintenance
  • Perform distributed antenna system (DAS) analysis and enhancements
  • Coordinate with cellular service providers for new equipment requirements
  • Provide engineering redesign and surveys for DAS system changes
  • Implement cellular service requests and resolve related issues
  • Dispatch for onsite repairs and coordinate service restoration
  • Perform visual inspections and software upgrades for infrastructure and DAS equipment
  • Provide maintenance reports on network analysis and testing
  • Maintain and support VoIP/PBX, UPS, emergency warning systems, public address systems, and radio services
  • Manage multimedia and cable plant services including design, installation, and maintenance
  • Provide emergency telecommunications and mission launch support
  • Manage network infrastructure including routers, switches, firewalls, and connectivity troubleshooting
  • Maintain facsimile services
  • Uphold documentation, security, and reporting requirements according to NASA and Leidos standards
  • Serve as technical lead when necessary to direct team efforts and project delivery
