This employment opportunity is for the position of Central Switchboard Operator within the Crisis Care Unit located at 2900 Stabler Street, Lansing, MI. The position is part-time with scheduled hours from Monday through Friday, 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM, providing a consistent evening shift for candidates looking to contribute during these hours. The hourly wage offers a competitive rate starting from $16.98 up to $18.53, with potential annual increases that can elevate the wage to $20.54, reflecting the organization's dedication to rewarding experience and commitment.
As a Central Switchboard Operator, the successful candidate will operate under the supervision of the Property and Facilities Manager, delivering key communication support to the Crisis Care Unit and other program offices. This role involves managing incoming calls on a central switchboard, directing calls efficiently to the appropriate program or personnel, and providing courteous and professional reception to walk-in visitors and clients. The operator will also provide routine information and guide visitors to appropriate services when needed.
This position requires excellent communication skills, a pleasant speaking voice, and the ability to manage difficult situations and frequent interruptions with professionalism. The switchboard operator will play a vital role in facilitating the smooth operation of the program unit, ensuring all activities align with the values and policies of CMHA-CEI. The role demands individuals who can handle multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining a positive demeanor and integrity in all interactions.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or G.E.D is required
- One year clerical experience or equivalent involving public contact
- Must have a pleasant speaking voice
- Ability to handle difficult situations and interruptions courteously and professionally
- Ability to communicate accurately and effectively verbally and in writing
- Must pass Michigan State Police Clearance check
- Must pass pre-employment 5-panel drug screen
- Must submit an employment application
Job Qualifications

Job Duties
- Operate central switchboard receiving and referring incoming calls to appropriate office or personnel
- Greet walk-in visitors and clients providing routine information or directing them to proper locations
- Carry out program sub-unit activities in line with CMHA-CEI’s mission, policies, and procedures
- Handle difficult situations and numerous interruptions courteously and professionally
- Communicate accurately and effectively both verbally and in writing
- Support smooth functioning of the Crisis Care Unit by managing communications
