Job Description

The Sun Rose West Hollywood is an independent, award-winning hotel located on the iconic Sunset Strip. As a proud member of Preferred Hotels & Resorts, this newly rebranded property offers guests a unique and memorable experience deeply rooted in design, cultural expression, and a strong sense of place. With 149 guest rooms and suites, The Sun Rose features a signature rooftop poolside restaurant by the renowned Chef Wolfgang Puck, a full-service spa, and an intimate live music venue. Situated on the historic site of the former House of Blues, The Sun Rose is dedicated to creating a guest experience that is magnetic, quietly bold, and unmistakably West Hollywood. The hotel embraces a commitment to inclusivity and diversity, welcoming individuals from various backgrounds, including U.S. military veterans, to join their team.

The available position at The Sun Rose West Hollywood offers an exceptional opportunity to be part of an intimate Omakase dining experience, serving up to 12 guests two to three times per evening. This role combines culinary expertise with guest interaction, allowing team members to connect directly with patrons and elevate the dining atmosphere. Unlike typical back-of-house roles, this position requires a blend of traditional sushi skills and modern culinary techniques, involving the preparation of a distinctive 17-course tasting menu that highlights nontraditional cooking methods while respecting classic sushi artistry. Serving as a lead in this setting demands not only advanced technical proficiency but also leadership qualities marked by professionalism and a positive attitude toward guests and team members alike.

Candidates will be responsible for providing a warm and engaging guest experience, clearly communicating dish details and anticipating guest preferences throughout service. Maintaining expert-level knowledge of the menu, including ingredient sourcing, preparation methods, and beverage pairing suggestions, is crucial. Furthermore, compliance with all health, safety, and sanitation regulations is essential to ensure a clean and organized work environment. The role also includes collaborating with culinary leadership to develop seasonal menus and special dining experiences that align with The Sun Rose’s commitment to excellence and cultural authenticity.

This position provides a competitive hourly rate of $21.05 with eligibility for service charge earnings and guarantees a combined annual minimum earning of $75,000. The role is ideal for someone with at least one year of sushi or fine dining experience, preferably with omakase expertise, who possesses advanced knife skills and deep knowledge of fish butchery, rice preparation, and traditional Japanese culinary techniques. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required for engaging guests in an intimate setting, and a flexible schedule accommodating evenings, weekends, and holidays is necessary.

The Sun Rose West Hollywood is part of HEI Hotels and Resorts, which is dedicated to offering a comprehensive benefits program focused on physical, mental, and financial wellness. Employees enjoy competitive medical, dental, and vision insurance plans, paid vacation, sick leave, holiday programs, pet insurance, life insurance, disability coverage, a 401(k) savings plan with matching contributions, and exclusive discounts. This benefits package underscores HEI’s commitment to supporting the well-being and future of their employees, making this opportunity highly attractive for culinary professionals seeking a rewarding career in a vibrant and prestigious hospitality environment.
