The role of Sushi Clerk is an integral position within Hy-Vee’s Hy-Chi department, specializing in sushi and Chinese Express food service. This role is non-exempt and includes responsibilities that range from customer service to food preparation and inventory management. The Sushi Clerk will be required to work night and weekend shifts, reflecting the dynamic needs of the food service environment that serves customers during peak hours and special times.

As a Sushi Clerk, the individual will be responsible for filling customer orders accurately while maintaining stringent food safety standards. Handling food safely, ordering and receiving products, checking order accuracy, and labeling and dating products constitute vital daily tasks. The clerk also manages inventory by ensuring that an adequate food supply is prepared and ready. Alongside technical duties, this position emphasizes customer interaction, requiring friendly and courteous communication to foster a positive image of Hy-Vee. Customer assistance extends beyond simple transactions, involving escorting customers to products, managing heavy items, and attentively responding to customer requests.

Additionally, resilience to the working environment, including exposure to raw fish, flour, and varying temperatures, is necessary for success in this role.
