Job Description

New Leaf Community Markets is a well-established cooperative grocery chain that first opened its doors on the Westside of Santa Cruz in 1985. Known for its commitment to sustainability and support for local producers, New Leaf has grown from a small community market into a respected purveyor of high-quality, locally sourced, natural foods. The company’s foundational philosophy revolves around the belief that the health and well-being of its guests, staff, and the wider community hinge on access to fresh, sustainable food. New Leaf collaborates with producers who share their passion for social justice, environmental care, and local community support, emphasizing a farm-to-table approach that ensures the freshest ingredients for their customers. This cooperative remains dedicated to nurturing a workplace where staff feel valued, respected, and empowered. They advance progressive employment practices and foster an inclusive culture characterized by openness, trust, and fairness, making it an exceptional workplace for individuals who want to thrive both professionally and personally.

In the role of Sushi Clerk within the Sushi Department, reporting directly to the Sushi Manager, you will play a key part in delivering exceptional customer experiences as a member of a passionate and friendly team. This nonexempt position focuses on preparing sushi products that meet the high standards of quality and presentation for which New Leaf Community Markets is known. Your daily responsibilities include preparing sushi according to established company recipes and delivering service that both meets and exceeds customer expectations. The role requires not only culinary skill and attention to detail but also a genuine enthusiasm for food, hospitality, and connecting with customers in a warm and positive way. The Sushi Clerk must be adept at working within a team environment, maintaining a clean and safe workspace, and complying with all company standards related to food safety, quality, and service delivery.

As a part of New Leaf Community Markets, the Sushi Clerk contributes to a mission-driven organization that uses business as a force for positive community impact. The company values integrity, sustainability, respect, community, and quality, making this role ideal for those who want to work in an environment where their contributions support broader social and environmental goals. You will benefit from an inclusive, supportive team culture where your engagement and hospitality skills help build relationships and foster repeat customer visits. This position offers not just a job, but an opportunity to be part of a community-focused team dedicated to nourishing the community while promoting sustainability and social responsibility. Comprehensive training and the chance for growth within the company add to the appeal of this opportunity, alongside an excellent benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision coverage, and a 401(k) plan for part-time employees working 25 hours or more per week.
