Job Description
Hy-Vee is a leading grocery chain known for its commitment to giving customers a helpful smile in every aisle. With a strong focus on team engagement and customer service, Hy-Vee prides itself on creating an enjoyable shopping experience and a supportive workplace environment. The company emphasizes a culture of professionalism, growth mindset, and results-oriented partnerships among its employees. Hy-Vee operates across multiple states, offering a diverse range of products and services including perishables, health and wellness, and prepared foods. As a trusted brand in the grocery industry, Hy-Vee is dedicated to fostering strong community connections and providing exceptional customer service throughout its stores.
The role of Sushi Clerk at Hy-Vee is a key position within the Hy-Chi department, responsible for efficiently managing customer orders and handling food products safely. This position is non-exempt, reporting to several roles including the District Store Director, Store Manager, and Hy-Chi Department Manager. As a Sushi Clerk, you will be instrumental in filling orders accurately, labeling and dating food items, receiving and storing products properly, and maintaining a clean and organized work area. The role demands a keen eye for detail to ensure all food items meet freshness standards and all safety and sanitation procedures are rigorously followed.
In addition to technical food handling and preparation skills, the Sushi Clerk also plays a vital customer service role within the store. You will interact directly with customers, providing friendly, courteous, and attentive service that reflects Hy-Vee's promise of a positive shopping experience. This includes greeting customers warmly, assisting with product location, taking telephone orders, and supporting co-workers to create a collaborative and efficient work environment. The position requires the ability to work under the fast pace of a busy grocery store, manage multiple tasks effectively, and meet production demands on a daily basis.
The Sushi Clerk position also encompasses secondary duties such as dish washing, product ordering, pricing, and delivery of orders when needed. This well-rounded role offers an opportunity to develop food service expertise while contributing directly to customer satisfaction. Employment with Hy-Vee as a Sushi Clerk requires a high school education or equivalent, food safety certification, and a minimum of six months related experience. Physical stamina is necessary due to the demands of lifting, standing, and repetitive motions involved in the role. Working conditions involve exposure to raw fish, temperature variations, cleaning chemicals, and noise, requiring a strong adherence to safety protocols.
Hy-Vee fosters a professional and supportive workplace culture where employees are encouraged to grow and deliver excellent results. If you are a customer-focused individual who values teamwork and quality food service, the Sushi Clerk position offers a rewarding opportunity to join a respected company in the grocery industry. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen, underscoring Hy-Vee’s commitment to workplace safety and integrity.
