In this role as a Sushi Clerk within the Hy-Chi department at Hy-Vee, the successful candidate will play a crucial part in delivering fresh, high-quality sushi products to customers while ensuring a clean and safe food handling environment. This non-exempt position requires someone who enjoys interacting with customers and can provide courteous, friendly, and efficient service. As a Sushi Clerk, you will be responsible for fulfilling customer orders accurately, managing inventory by ordering and receiving products, and maintaining proper food labeling and storage practices. The job demands adherence to safety and sanitation protocols, attention to detail, and teamwork to maintain a positive shopping experience.

Your daily tasks will include greeting and assisting customers, whether in the sushi department or throughout the store, engaging with customers by learning their names, and helping with requests such as reaching for items or handling heavy products. Telephone etiquette is vital as you will take orders over the phone, including at the Chinese Express counter. Collaboration with co-workers ensures smooth operations during the shift, from reviewing daily orders to replenishing sushi products, checking freshness and quality, and following production lists to maintain an adequate supply.

The Sushi Clerk role also requires physical stamina and the ability to handle various duties such as pulling items from coolers or freezers, managing product waste, and maintaining cleanliness of the work area in compliance with all health and company policies. In addition to the primary duties, secondary tasks such as dishwashing, product pricing, order delivery, and assisting in other store areas contribute to the overall efficiency of the department.

Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and have at least six months of related experience coupled with Food Safety Certification. The role demands physical capabilities to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and perform repetitive motions such as standing, walking, crouching, and handling food products. Working in a fast-paced environment, the candidate should have strong communication skills, a growth mindset, and a customer-focused attitude while maintaining professionalism at all times.
