The Sushi Clerk role within the Hy-Chi department is an exciting position ideal for an individual passionate about food service and excellent customer care. This non-exempt role involves a variety of responsibilities centered around preparing, packaging, and serving sushi products while ensuring all food safety and sanitation standards are followed. As a Sushi Clerk, you will be responsible for filling customer orders accurately and efficiently, safely handling food, ordering and receiving supplies, verifying correctness of orders, labeling, dating, and storing products appropriately. Beyond the technical tasks, this role is deeply customer-focused—providing friendly, courteous service and creating a welcoming atmosphere for shoppers.

In this role, personal interactions matter greatly. You are expected to greet customers with a smile, learn their names when possible, and assist them not only at the Sushi counter but throughout the store. This could include helping customers find products, accommodating special requests, or assisting with heavier items. The position requires teamwork to maintain smooth operations, such as reviewing daily orders, managing inventory, and ensuring freshness of products. Physical ability is essential as the job demands exerting various levels of force when moving products and supplies, as well as performing repetitive motions in a fast-paced environment with exposure to temperature changes and cleaning agents.

The Sushi Clerk also contributes to the store’s overall success by adhering to Hy-Vee’s policies and upholding the company’s image through professionalism and results-oriented work. There is no supervisory responsibility in this role, but you will work closely with a team and report to multiple supervisors including the Department Manager and Assistant Managers. This position is suitable for candidates with a high school education or equivalent experience, food safety certification, and prior experience in a related food service role.
